Probably a non-event, but it's the offseason for the Sox, and a Wednesday, so have at it.

Probably takes Wise's place on the roster. He does seem to have potential and a pretty good upside barring further injuries.

He had a good season in AAA and he's only 25. Not a bad under-the-radar first move for our bench or AAA team by Kenny.

It's funny, I'm very much enjoying postseason baseball, but I almost can't wait for the end of the World Series so Kenny can get moving on assembling the 2010 White Sox...

Wasn't he kind-of a higher prospect a few years ago? His name seems familiar.

I don't think De Aza was ever a high-end prospect, but he surprisingly made the opening day roster as starting CF for the Marlins a few years ago out of AA and had insane numbers the first two weeks of the season and got hurt. You also may have remembered him from when he got claimed from LA in the Rule V Draft

That's it. I remember him as the starting CF.

So does his bio on the Sox website. The Tribune however screwed up and said he was 29.

The official press release says 29, but I believe 25 is right.

As a waiver claim, he has to make the Sox 25 man roster right?

No. That's the Rule 5 draft, which is in December.

He's six years younger than Wise. Let's see what he can do before we write him off as the next Dewayne Wise.

Review from a friend who is a New Orleans Zephyr season ticket holder:

Has the look of a classic 4-A, good not great eye, light power, but solid all around. Definitely worth the pick up as he has a history of injuries that he could turn and actually become a very successful third/fourth outfielder. Will not be an impact DH, but a good pick up that has a chance at the ML roster.

Can someone explain the complete and uttermost hate for the Luis Terrero post?

Because how can "De Aza" be Spanish for "Luis Terrero" when "Luis Terrero" is already Spanish?

Also, the whole "writing him off before even giving him a chance" thing played a part in the negative reaction as well, I'm sure.

If the franchise can survive the Andy Gonzalez era, it'll survive this too...

I think "De Aza" is Portuguese for "Pablo Ozuna."

Ozuna couldn't field well. I believe De Aza is a much better defender than Pablo. That said, you are likely heading in the right direction. I'd say that De Aza is Portuguese for Angel Pagan (who had a decent partial year at age 28)

I don't expect anything at all from him. If he ends up a 5th OF, that's gravy.

I like the Ozuna comparison. If he's coming north as a bench player, I don't see the downside.

Just what we need - another toy for ozzie who can't hit.

One of the reason I'm optimistic about this season is that, say what you want about Kotsay, he's several notches above Wise, Erstad or Jerry Owens.

De Aza has a .275 average in the minors averaging 18 steals. His .229 average in his cup of coffee with the Marlins was due to a hot start, then playing with an injury.

It's undecided if he can hit or not at the major league level. Spring numbers are pretty meaningless, but that .448 average this spring sure looks nice...

He is not out of options. My guess is he'll end up in AAA as an insurance policy.
