View Full Version : Official NLDS Thread: St. Louis Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Probable Starters:
Game 1 @ Los Angeles: Chris Carpenter (17-4, 2.24 ERA) vs. Randy Wolf (11-7, 3.23 ERA)
Game 2 @ Los Angeles: Adam Wainwright (19-8, 2.63 ERA) vs. Clayton Kershaw (8-8, 2.79 ERA)
Game 3 @ St. Louis: Vicente Padilla (12-6, 4.46 ERA) vs. Joel Pineiro (15-12, 3.49 ERA)
Chad Billingsley is slated to go for the Dodgers in Game 4 should the series get that far.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2009/matchup/_/teams/cardinals-dodgers

I think the Cards will take this series in five games. The Dodgers will put up a fight, but ultimately, their pitching will fail them.

Cards probably have the best top two heading into the playoffs, and sometimes that's all you need. The also have a well rounded line up and a decent bullpen.

I expect them to advance.

Not many people like Manny, which I understand, but I like the rest of the Dodgers obviously including Thome. So I hope their guys step up, Ethier gets his head out of his rear end and they pull out this series.

Carpenter and Wainwright will be very tough in a short series. They'll be good pitching matchups though as the Dodgers have a couple of really good starters.

Definitely going with the Dodgers on this one. I need to see Thome get that ring, and I also respect Joe Torre way too much as a manager.

What is with all the Cardinals love in this place?

I'm surprised there isn't more.

- They are the closest NL team to Chicago, not counting the Brewers who used to be AL rivals with the Sox.

- They are the mortal enemies of our enemy, the Cubs.

- They have been consistantly good for a long time.

I'm rooting for the Cards for obvious reasons. They killed the Dodgers in the regular season...but anything goes in the post season. They played terribly towards the end of the season and that's a bit of a cause for concern but we'll see. I can't wait.

Usually I'm pretty upset by the late start times on the West coast, but at least now the game doesn't conflict with anything I should be doing instead.

Franklin is more to blame for the loss than Holliday. He should have retired two hitters, and while the second should have ended the game, he didn't retire anyone after the error.

The first run was unearned. The second was unearned against the team but earned against the pitcher.

Great win for the Dodgers, though. I'm glad I'm not a Cardinals fan tonight.

It's Dick Stockton.

That was a real heartbreak for the Cards, though they have had more heartbreaking losses during their postseason history. And this isn't the first heartbreaking loss a Tony LaRussa-managed team has had at Dodger Stadium.

Stockton was terrible for much of the game. I don't care so much for his delivery anyway, but I was surprised at how many miscues he made.

Being a LaRussa-managed team who coincidentally didn't have a lefthander ready in the bullpen, I'm not so sure Wainwright didn't hit him on purpose there.

Awesome win the for the Dodgers. And....it couldn't happen to a better team. I hate the Cards. Seriously, Adam Wainwright, I haven't seen someone whine like that since the last little league game I went to. Can I get you some cheese to go with that? Your left fielder can't catch a ball hit right to him and you're crying about the fans being allowed to wave towels??? You're a loser.

Always nice when the Cardinals bomb like this. That Tony the Genius saw it is even better. Now based on those "passionate" Cardinal fans, Holliday might have to go into hiding if the Crads lose this series.

No need to worry about that, Boras will get him out of St. Louis the first week that free agency begins.

I'm intrigued if the usual Boras games will be played with Holliday...

Is Andre Ethier the most clutch hitter in the post season right now? At least looking at his 2009 stats, he seems like the one guy you'd want at the plate with men in scoring position late in the ball game.

What did he have, 6 walk-off hits this season?

STL has just rolled over in this series.

I guess the Cardinal fans listened to Adam Wainwright because none of them are waving any white towels, socks, or shirts.....

On the other hand, they are not waving any red towels, socks, or shirts.....

In fact nobody has been waving anything.... Except for the white flag in the Cards dugout.

This series reminds me of the ALDS in 2000 versus SEA. Lou just walked Big Frank every time he came up in a situation he could hurt the M's, and nobody stepped in to pick up the slack.

The only thing I cannot stand about this game is that pussmouth Padilla will probably be the winning pitcher.
