This has been discussed, but I figured it deserved its own thread. For some baseball context, Cabrera was 0-11 this weekend in the biggest series of the year.

Interesting. We know that Ozzie and Cabrera were close from their days as Marlins. I'm guessing/purely speculating Cabrera was out partying with Ozzie and Freddy Garcia. I'd be pissed if I was a Tiger fan -- your star player arriving home drunk at 5 a.m. when he has to be at the ballpark 5-6 hours later for a "save your season" game!

Over three times the legal limit. He's lucky he didn't die of alcohol poisoning.

No, for most people that would require well over .3 and hardcore alcoholohics have been known to push up close to .4 before being in danger.

Well, here I am thinking that lying down like bitches against the Twinkees in the last home series was enough help for Minny. Apparently, at least one Sox player thought Minny needed more help to get to the playoffs.

I wonder if Magglio was partying with them too.

I doubt AJ was out with Miggy, but wouldn't it be a classic AJ move to "encourage" an opponent to get plastered the night before a big game? I can see AJ and Miggy sitting at the bar, AJ telling the bartender to keep the shots coming, and then pouring his out while Miggy's downing his. To be honest, I could see the same thing happening with Ozzie and Miggy.

How little do you have to care about your teammates to go get plastered the night before a huge game.

Maybe this explains him sucking this series, he's been on a drinking binge. Sounds like he may have a problem as this isn't the first time he has been in trouble while drinking. He must really not want to play in the playoffs.

Cabrera sounds like a bully and a thug in that article. He has no room to rag on anyone about their weight; he's not too slim himself.

I hope Cabrera seeks help in the off-season from a 12 step program or something. He seems like an alcoholic. Not too many people can be on a cell phone walking around fine with a .26 BAC

Miguel Cabrera needs serious help.

The Tigers owe him $20+ million per season for each of the next SIX years.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have his bat in our lineup, but to have a team still owe him $126 million and have him pull this crap and let the team down in a "season-on-the-line" series. :o: Wow!

The Tigers better hope he doesn't let his personal problems drag down his performance, because that's a ****load of money they still owe him.

Unless the Sox players in question tied Cabrera to a chair and forced alcohol down his throat, I don't see why it would be an issue that they were out with him.

If one of those players was Freddy (which I wouldn't doubt), it's funny that Freddy went out the next game and shut down the Tigers. I guess he should party more often...

Agreed. Its no secret he has friends on the Sox. He's a big boy. Big enough to take responsibility for his own actions.

i don't think anyone out there is blaming the Sox, fwiw.

Oh, I'm not implying that. It's just that I hate when things like this are brought up, i.e. 'so-and-so was arrested on a drunk driving charge. He was at such-and-such night club. he was hanging out with this member of that team". IMO it's such a non-issue. it opens the door to unfounded allegations, that maybe the person in question is hanging out with the wrong crowd.

Also, I may be thinking waaaaaay to much about it.

No. A few drinks out after a game is fine, but not a drunken binge like this before an important game the following day.

FWIW, Steve Stone on the Score this morning didn't spend more than about ten seconds on the company that Cabrera was keeping; he talked a good deal about how Cabrera has a history of this type of behavior and it's not something that the Tigers organization did not know about him.

It's too bad for MC. He's got a lot of talent; it's easy for that talent to get squandered if substance abuse is a problem.

Well, I guess Cabrera is just fine now. Two-run homer and the Tigers are up 3-0! The Dome is silent!
