About time. Those deals he gave to Wells, Ryan and Rios should have done him in sooner.

When Ricciardi is knocked for signing Rios, remember the Sox in effect just took that 5yr 60m deal.

IMO Ricciardi was on the very short list of worst GMs ever. He had time, money and a strong core of homegrown players, and never did ****. On top of that, he came off as an arrogant schmuck.
The Halladay circus couldn't have helped.
He created every bit of it and was never serious about trading him in the first place.

Why?
He could have traded him.
He could have not continually changed his PUBLIC position on it.
He could have done a better job going into the season with a capable team so it never came down to this.

Riccardi's terrible and his buddy Shaprio isn't much better. Shapiro won't give Cliff Lee any money, but he'll sign Kerry Wood for 10 Mill a year. Nice.
