NY Times explains how to get face value tickets at Fenway Park on game day

When I was in Boston a few years ago in Sept. they were playing the White Sox. I got in late Friday night and had tickets to the Sunday game. We stayed at the Sheraton Back Bay so when I woke up, I figured I would walk over to Fenway just so I sort of knew my way and pick up a little exercise. When my wife and I got there there was a long line. I figured since it was the middle of Sept. they must have been selling some extra playoff tickets or something. We asked the people in line and they said they were buying tickets for the game that night. I figured I might as well get in line. We weren't moving anywhere, so I had my cell phone and had been trying to get tickets previous days without luck. I called and sure enough they sold me 2 right behind first base not together but only one seat in between so it wasn't going to be a problem being together. They put the tickets at will call and I had to come back at 5 or something to pick them up. I don't think the people in line by me were too happy with me and I don't know if they even would let me do that today but a lot of people did ask me for the phone number.

If you're willing to wait until after first pitch you can usually pick up tickets for face value or less at just about any ballpark

I did the same thing a few years back when Nebraska came to South Bend to play Notre Dame. You could walk around before the game and there were NO tickets to be had. Once the game started I got in line at will call and by the middle of the first quarter I was in the stadium.

I do this at Gate 2 for the Bears game. I never had a problem getting in the house.
