It is a foregone conclusion. Especially going into late innings and not leading. How many walk off hits have they given up lately? It seems like they lose in two ways: get absolutely pounded or watch the other team celebrate winning at their last at bat.

Geez, I thought the Twins were going to run over our players when they went on the field! Did you see our players skirt to avoid getting run over by them?

I am sorry but that was a bit much. Did they think they won the division? Ridiculous.

And why didn't they put Bobby in? The man hasn't pitched more than 10 minutes in the past week, he could handle an inning or so. If I have one complaint about Ozzie, it is that he has not idea what to do with the pitching staff.

Sadly, I am so used to us losing in painful ways, it really doesn't even upset me anymore. I am really just resigned to the fact that we are not a good team. I am excited to see the young kids and to try to figure out what the 2010 team will look like.

Given that with each bad road trip, I basically only have the game on the TV and am not watching it in-full, I can seriously say that I could care less about this team.

If you told me how we were doing now at the beginning of the season, I would believe you. But just a month ago, I was feeling kinda optimistic about this team, especially after the Buehrle game and the Yankees series.

They're not gonna clean house. I'd expect you'll see 8 of the starters back next year.

Rios has been in a funk all season. I'd expect a different approach next season, with hopefully a new hitting instructor.
Rios, at worst, will be good D, not hit...yes, we could have gotten that out of Anderson, but Ozzie would have none of it. Maybe he'll let Rios just patrol CF and take what offense comes, although base on early returns (pods playing a lot of CF) that won't happen.
The only way this manufacturing runs approach will yield wins is if we don't give up many runs. And that requires much, much better D.

The way this team has imploded on this road trip is disgusting. Absolutely unacceptable. I have always lived & died with this franchise, but what is happening now is almost worse than what happened in 2007, considering all of the injuries they had then. This is a capable team that - for whatever reason - has appeared completely impotent for the majority of this season. If I were KW, I would not hesitate in moving half of this roster before next April.

And another thing, I'm tired of reading this ridiculous blaming of a baseball stadium on losing. As Ozzie said in 2005 when outsiders wanted to tie the Chisox to some sort of jinx, "There is no jinx ... it's just been 90 years of **** baseball." Well, the same goes for all of this attention on the Humphrey dome ... it's not the stadium, it's just years of ***** baseball!!

And now that I've been allowed to vent, I'm going to mix myself a drink ...

Not sure if this 1 - 8 is worse than the 4 - 8 homestand against Oak, Cle, and Detroit in June. I should have known at that point that this season was going down Detoilet.

I know it was just a 3 game series, but the sweep in Minnesota last year was pretty brutal.

However, the outcome provided us with one of the best games in White Sox history.

I've been saying all along, this team is more ****ing aggravating then 2007 because at least in '07 we kind of had a feel for the team early on. This '09 team kept our hopes up, only to choke.

I'm not. They set the standard for mediocrity opening day. They had to put Beckham in the majors earlier than expected playing a different position because Uribe/Crede's replacement was terrible. You had a 5th starter who was basically out of baseball. Then there was Needs a Betta Mitt.

The fact you could care less about how you come off to people says a lot about you.

The fact you seem to want to control what one side of an argument says to another (which you are clearly biased towards) says even more.

I get what you're saying, but I am a fan who actually DOES use rational thought. If you dislike people who are rational, ignore me then.

When I turned it on (I was watching Sugar at the time, tremendous baseball movie by the way), it was 2 outs in the 9th with Morales coming up. I said to my father, "here comes a base hit to win it." Right at the crack of the bat, I carried on our conversation about something else while turning the channel. I didn't care. I'm just annoyed that I thought turning to the game was a good idea.

Just so you know, the official motto of WSI is:

"Totally Biased, Utterly Petty, Completely Unobjective"

Thus has it ever been, thus will it ever be.

Oh and I love a good rational discussion, I try to be involved in them regularly, but there's another side of this thing too and sometimes that's the side people are letting out. They don't necessarily care if the Twinkies are a better team than the Sox, they're still the Twinkies...

As a Bears fan am I supposed to look back at the 90's and say, "well they had a HOF QB and the Bears had Mikey"?

As a Buckeye fan am I supposed to look back at the 90's and be content that Cooper led the team to lots of great seasons and lots of losses to our chief rival who I won't name by name because I'd rather eat broken glass?

As a Sox fan am I supposed to be rational and completely calm as I watch the team's final hopes run down the drain in that giant dump of a stadium one more time?

I'm sure CTF and me and others will be just fine talking about this crap in a rational straightforward manner in a few days or after the season ends or at some point in the future. The fact it's not the case two hours after the game ends might not be that surprising if you put down the computer and let your emotions out a bit, but that's just me. If you don't want to or are incapable of doing so, that's fine too, but neither side is necessarily correct, that's why they call them emotions...

Sunday night football not too far away, looking forward to the Bears taking my mind off this season.

I find the thought of that more depressing than the loss tonight.

The game began with the Sox not scoring a leadoff double. They didn't need to get a hit (and, in fact, the Twins didn't get a hit to score their leadoff triple later in the game), but Beckham grounded out to third instad of hitting the ball to the right side. Why he is batting second, I have no idea. He doesn't do the things a No. 2 hitter is supposed to do, and he has pretty much stopped hitting, although he was in the right spot to tie the game with a home run.

I don't know how many times I've seen Podsednik open the game with a double -- or at least get to second with no one out -- and fail to score. (In fairness to the hitters who follow him, he has been picked off a couple of times.)

The previous roadtrip ended with a game-ending hit. Actually, two of the three losses on that roadtrip came on two-out hits by the home team. The Sox have lost three games ending with home-team hits on the current roadtrip. It isn't just one or two guys who are losing these games. The losses are spread around.

I've seen some miserable White Sox seasons, but I can't remember seeing one where they Sox have lost so many tough games -- maybe 1968, which I think set a record for one-run losses, evening out the one-run wins in the 1967 season.

As many things as have gone wrong this season, it is amazing the Sox were in the race so long.

For what? The 2009 Sox are in transition and have been all year. As this link (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/2009-schedule-scores.shtml) to baseball reference shows, the Sox high water mark in 2009 was 5 over .500, which they reached on July 23, 2009. Compare that to 2005 (http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHW/2005-schedule-scores.shtml) World Champs who were 5 over .500 on April 18, 2005 and were never worse than that the rest of the year. O.K., the Sox didn't have a championship caliber team in 2009, that's true. But does anyone seriously think that they didn't make a lot of progress this year? Does anyone think that the Sox' depth in the minors is a lot better than it was even a couple of years ago? Even the Metrodome is finally going away.

The 2009 Sox are in transition but the future, to me anyway, looks bright.

Rosenbloom's quote on Pena:

"Tony Pena is Dotel with a learnerís permit, but heís younger, so Iíd give him 15 appearances in September and see what I come up with. I think I know the answer, but Iíd like to have another month to confirm the coronerís toxicology report."

I appreciate the civil post. On the other hand, I'm as emotional as anybody else. But I'm not gonna go off on the Twins when clearly the Sox are the ones to blame. That's just me.

I understand and I truly do apologize if I offended you. I hope we can have many fun rational discussions in times to come.

After reading some responses on here, why is anyone surprised anymore? Feel free to vent all you want, but most posters like myself have enter depression mode and been resigned to the fact that this team's going nowhere this year. Also, those who still blame the Dome itself on our poor play there need to realize it's all mental. We should've shed ourselves of this mindset already, but that clearly hasn't happened.

The game began with the Sox not scoring a leadoff double. They didn't need to get a hit (and, in fact, the Twins didn't get a hit to score their leadoff triple later in the game),

Nice route by Pods on that ball too.

Why the **** wasn't Rios in CF? They certainly can't be considering Pods in CF at all next year with a $10 million Rios, can they?

Every time Danks faces Cuddeyer, he should just hit him.

This is the peculiar thing above all else. Ozzie must not believe that Rios can play there. I think Pods needs to go so that he won't put him there anymore.

As for this team.....well, if we can get in the top 7 for a pick, that's cool with me.

I come from a group that that feels that Ozzie is an absolutely terrible in-game manager. He just doesn't seem to know what he's doing. The way he manages sometimes it's like he's never even heard of a scout report.

Rios gets put in right because Pods cannot make the throw from right to 3rd base. It also looks like they don't have enuff confidence in Carlos to put him in right. Or they could just be waiting to make that move in the offseason.

I saw Rios in center in Oakland and wasn't impressed. I certainly wasn't impressed with Podsednik in left. In the three seasons I've been watching the Sox play in Oakland (and they have played some good baseball in Oakland in the last three seasons, Podsednik has had key defensive misadventures in two the the three losses.

I don't know what the White Sox are thinking about for next year. But the nicest thing about the 2010 Sox is that the team is undefeated at this point.

To me, the 2009 Sox were about bad luck, bad fundamentals, pretty good starting pitching, below average situational hitting, defense and bullpen.

Why even have Jenks on the ballclub if you don't use him when it's 3-3 in the ninth inning?

Oh yeah, not a save situation. Great managing, Oz. ****ing idiot.

We'll pitch him when up 3 to give him a cheap save (which will really pay off when arbitration rolls around post-season). What a joke.

7 Back. Wow. I NEVER thought it would get this bad. I thought we would come back from this trip at 4 back at the worst. Hard to believe. Oh well. Good luck Tigers and Twins, they could cause some real problems for whoever that end up matched up with in a short playoff series.

I'm with you. This team has been given chance after chance with the 2005 core intact and has failed. Time to move on.

I guess Jerry Reinsdorf was right when he said it takes a lot of luck to with the Series.

Back then, we didn't know how much luck was required.

Of course, the 2005 team had backbone, something this edition appears to be lacking.

They are depressing to watch. You just KNOW they're going to find some way to lose.

We rented a move yesterday, rather than subject ourselves to yet another loss in the Hefty Bag Dome.

What happens if we lose our first six games at Target Field next season? Then what lame-ass, Cubs black cat, goat, Bartman-like excuses will this team come up with as to why we can't beat the Twins?!

Man does this team need a mindset change!

As a Buckeye fan am I supposed to look back at the 90's and be content that Cooper led the team to lots of great seasons and lots of losses to our chief rival who I won't name by name because I'd rather eat broken glass?

Not sure who you're referring to, but you sound as angry as a wolverine. Slight thread hijack, though at this point might be a good diversion.

Coop coached tOSU and kept losing to TSUN before he became the Sox pitching coach?

If we could drill some base hits, extra base hits, have runners in RISP would be much better than drilling some third rate CF.

I like Bobby Jenks but pitching him in a tie game right now doesn't look very inviting because he has been giving up runs consistently.

So has everyone else in the bullpen. Might as well give Jenks a shot.

So, are you going to pitch Jenks in the 10th as well or let Pena lose the game one inning later?

It's not like Ozzie has a lot of options in that regard. Leaving Thornton in to pitch the whole 9th was probably the best option. If someone can point me to a stats site that shows Jenks's success rate in late inning tie situations vs success rate in save situations, I'd be grateful. My impression from watching his career is that he is more successful in the latter than the former.

That's pretty much my thought as well, especially considering that Jenks has pitched maybe an inning over the past week.

I'm questioning whether having Jenks pitch the 9th, even assuming he has success, just so one of the stiffs can lose the game in the 10th is a good idea. Or, pitching Jenks two innings so he can't go today and then losing in the 11th.

Bottom line, the game was lost when the Sox didn't score in the top of the 9th. Even if they get out of the 9th, the Sox aren't going to score against Nathan in the top of the 10th, and then Pena or Linebrink is going to lose the game one inning later.

I can see Ozzie's reasoning that Matt was the best option for a win. We are supposed to try to win games. This isn't a tryout or a whose turn is it situation. Doesn't matter what Ozzie does... someone here has a better idea.

It is b/c of the theory that you do not pitch your "closer" in a tie on the road... IT actually does make some sense, but I could understand why you want the closer int hat spot.
