Just a thought:

What if the Sox were to some how acquire Nyjer Morgan from the Nationals. He could play center, and lead off. We could drop Thome and have our outfield be Pods, Morgan, Rios, TCQ and Dye. We can alternate any these guys as DH as well depending on who needs a day off. He could be a cheap pickup.

The Nationals have played a lot better since acquiring him and he doesn't make much money. I doubt they would trade him unless they received what they would consider significant overpayment.

Why would the Sox need another OF?

So we'll have a reason to bitch about a particular player's playing time.

Thats right! With BA gone and Wise on DL we haven't had a good playing time bitchfest in a while.

They just got a gem with Morgan in the trade for Lastings Milledge. Why would they give him up?

Silliness. He isn't going anywhere.

If the Sox aquired anyone from the Nationals, I'd want it to be Dunne. Cheap contract, lefty hitter similar to a younger Thome. He can play outfield, spell at 1b. This way the Sox don't have to worry about a lefty slugger for next year.

How, exactly, would the Sox "drop Thome"? Just have him sit on the bench for the rest of 2009?

Or are you talking about the 2010 team composition?

He's exactly what Ozzie's been looking for - a slap hitting CF with speed. But he, in contrast, to the others, is good at it.
