Red Sox released him.. Anyone think that KW will try to sign him to take Jose's spot in case Peavy can't come back?

Well, Peavy might start Saturday, right? So that takes care of Jose's spot. With the Peavy and Rios deals, I don't foresee us having any more cash to throw around, we're sinking or swimming with what we got, IMO.

Can't be more than 100k for the rest of the season.... If nothing else he could be injury insurance...

Ugh, Brad Penny. If the Sox are getting to the point where they're looking for another arm for the fifth starter, I hope they just call up Torres. This saves Hudson for another year (for arbitration) and it prevents Kenny from getting another retread veteran.

Whenever a contending team cuts a pitcher this late in the season, that shows that guy is truly useless. You can never have enough pitching, unless you've got a guy who is throwing the ball as poorly as Brad Penny.

Peavy is not starting Saturday by all reports.

Why not sign the guy. What else could possibly happen? If Freddy implodes and Peavy takes longer than expected due to his elbow, we're in a world of hurt, not that we aren't already.

No. If Boston thinks he can't contribute anything then why the hell should we think he can contribute anything?!

Penny asked to be released. In either way, I'd take a chance on him.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Twins go hard after him.
