When will he start earning the insane amount of money the sox are paying him? Hopefully soon because he's been a major bust so far.

Nothing's better than using a week's worth of data to evaluate a player! Great topic.

He's having a down year, that's pretty obvious. I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait another season or two before we can make judgments based on the terms of his contract.

You should probably take your own advice. I know a guy making $10 million a year should bat 1.000/1.000/4.000 but that's just not realistic. He's been here for 6 damn games. Paulie snapped an 0-23 skid yesterday. Perhaps JR should have held his paycheck for last week, too?

Great thread. Especially after the last two games where on Monday he had two big hits and a walk and scored the game winning run. Where yesterday he had a perfectly executed hit and run. Oh, and lets not forget he's covering about 60% of the OF out there.

I really hope Alex Rios' contract doesn't become the next Brian Anderson topic on this site. It is what it is. He's a good player that helps this team win. He's probably overpaid but if it results in a World Series, who gives a ****?

We finally have a legit CF, something we have not had in a very long time and this thread comes up.

I see many bigger issues with this team than Alex Rios (I am looking at you Alexei)

As as I'm concerned, the Sox are paying Alex Rios 12 million a season so I don't have to see any part of the CF merry-go-round we've had the last 3 seasons. And I'm fine with that.

Agreed.

I have major reservations about the 2009 Sox, but Alex Rios is not one of them. I am thrilled with that acquisition.

Well our man Alex just hit a gorgeous double with one out only to be left on base.....I'd rather talk about what we're going to do with the Cuban missile....? Lots of terrible strikeouts compounded by lots of errors.....I vote the next thread focus on what we do to get his head back in the game? He does have that propensity for late inning HR's but wow...there is a lot of grief in between those puppies!

I sense some untealed sarcasm, but I'll answer anyway...

Rowand had a great 2004 with the Sox and a grindy 2005. And among players I have seen play, only Pete Rose hustled more than Rowand. But Rowand has nowhere near the talent of Rios. It's not even close.

I don't know why you used teal...he is mentioned in most OF threads. And he's also not that good. Rowand's defense was overrated when he was here, often making great plays to make up for bad jumps, and from what I've read, his D has gone down hill considerably.
