After Konerko almost went yard, I really thought the Sox would find a way to pull this one out. I'm glad my premonitions came to fruition.

I was totally pissed for most of the 7th and 8th. Had one rant post in the game thread and when Dye grounded into the DP in the 8th I was just livid. Then PK just missed the bomb in the 9th and it struck me as such a "what now?" moment that I started to giggle. It was like all the tension washed away and shortly thereafter good things started happening.

Gotta keep the faith even when it's midnight dark inside your heart. Even if they had lost the season was a long way from over. Fortunately they won and hopefully it's the kind of win that will give the team a boost.

Go get 'em tomorrow, BurlyMon.

Ramirez matches up very well against Aardsma, who throws hard without exceptional movement. Last night Ramirez singled off Aardsma to lead off the ninth. Tonight I was confident the Sox had their best shot with Ramirez facing Aardsma with two on and one out. When I saw Aardsma was coming in for the save, I thought that if the Sox could get Ramirez up, they had an excellent chance at scoring.

Of course, I don't wonder why Aardsma was brought in for the save. The closer mentality dictates that you bring in your closer to close the game, even if your closer isn't Goose Gossage or Dennis Eckersley. But I'm not going to complain about a move that lost the game for the Mariners.

And I don't want to overlook that Ramirez came up huge, just as he came up huge against the Rays in July. Many around here forget how good a hitter Ramirez is.

Danks was more than impressive (although Ramirez robbed him of his first career complete game in giving him a win). If he had been just a six inning pitcher as he usually is, he wouldn't have picked up the win, and heaven only knows if the bullpen would have kept the game in reach. The reason wins for starting pitchers is such an important stat is that it shows starters can go deep enough into games to get wins.

Some here will likely be upset the Sox didn't score earlier and more often, but that misses the point of what a great game this was for the White Sox.

One swing cleans all the sins away....thank you Alexei.
Johnny deserved a better fate than losing this one 1-0...hope it turns his season around.
Indians shut out the rangers tonite...they are the hottest team in the AL Central now..10-3 in their last 13...go figure.
KC blows out Blackburn tonite in less than two innings..not really looking forward to Olivo and co. coming to Soxpark next week.

We need to catch fire offensively, we stole this one..but JD,PK ect have to get warm at least...JD...12 for his last 85...ouch..but nice throw to nail whathisname at second.

Wonder if maybe Ozzie sits JD tomorrow vs King and plays Alex in right...give JD two days off in a row with the off day...come back fresh.

Okay, like I said, it's a java based chat. Unlike IE, Firefox does not have the Java platform pre-installed. Google Java download and you should find it no problem. Then just install it and it should start running anytime you use java based software including the chat room.

We'll find out soon enough since they face the Mariners best Wednesday then have to go to the House Of Horrors, West Coast version this weekend.

If it truly means something they'll react accordingly on Wednesday certainly by Friday.

Tying run on second in the ninth and 2 strikes and Alexei is uppercutting a high fastball, swinging for the fences? Got lucky this time, but that approach from Alexei and others, especially earlier in the season, is part of the reason why the Sox are being chased by .500 -- and why this was the first time they won trailing in the ninth.

Chris Hansen is our good luck charm. :D: And I stand by my previous opinion of him.

How could you not? Speaking of which, after his professional experience, I'd bet that "your man" Chris Hansen is one of the most qualified people in the world to avoid authorities in regards to child predation.

As Stony pointed out two pitches earlier, Alexei is the only guy on the team that really flourishes getting on top of high fastballs...it is what he does. He has real trouble with outside breaking stuff but try to sneak a fastball by him? forget it. No, that was actually a hanging 88mph slider..Sox were missing hangers all nite...at least 5-6 times according to Hawk and Stony...finally caught up to one.

AS for the comments by Ozzie...great. As Paulie said, ''check your egos at the door, we are about winning now'' That is captain talk.
I also figured that Ozzie would hit Nix or Rios as leadoff vs tough leftys when Pods sits...makes total sense. Nix is drawing a lot of walks and has a good on base average considering his low batting average.
Tonite I presume Rios plays right and JD sits...Rios has around a .500 ba vs King Felix...that will work:D:

I would sit PK tonite also...give Kotsay first base...and go with Pods,Kots,AJ,Getz and Thome....lefty lineup time.

I am so happy for Alexei that he came through in the clutch last night. :bandance: Sox really needed that win; I can't believe that it was the first comeback win of the year. Also happy for Danks that he got the win. What a game he pitched!

I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 5 am for work, so I'm kinda out of it today. And I really miss being a part of the game chat. I'm out of town in NYC on business until Sunday, but I'll be sure to check in on WSI and see what everybody is up to.

Go Sox!

This is the first year I've been "out-of-market" since '05 and game chat really kept me in the loop then. I'm glad to see it's back for those non-WGN games... and the days I'm too lazy/broke/have other things to do than to go to a bar for 3 hours.

I was about 5 seconds from turning this game off after the top of the 8th. I was tired, it was late, and I was pissed about no runs from the offense on a night Danks was throwing great. I kept telling myself "I'll turn this off right after this pitch". Konerko flies out deep to open the 9th, and I have the remote in my hand, finger on the OFF button. A.J. walks, and I say "well, lets see what happens here". Even when Alexei was batting, I kept wondering if he was going to strike out, or hit a towering infield pop up with that long swing of his. Glad I stuck around !

Still, there's something wrong when you go deep into August tohave your first win when trailing after eight innings.

I was driving around Evanston looking for a good place to watch the meteor shower and I tuned in just as Alexei's at-bat started. This has been the only bright spot for me the past couple of days as I've been battling an INSANE sinus infection. I can barely hear since my ears are all clogged up.

Thanks for cheering me up a bit Alexei!

He always swings like that. He makes more contact than the average player doing it and has only K'ed 43 times in 380 AB. It's not broken...

I prefer to think the Sox have ten late inning comebacks in them this season. They just saved them for the last eight weeks of the season.

The thing about last night's game is that it should have never come down to having to hit a 3-run HR in the 9th to win.

I, for one, am sick and tired of the White Sox not being able to hit A, AA, or AAA pitching. Ridiculous.

Isn't that somewhat of an irrelevant statistic? Wins after trailing after eight? Seriously...

They did hit off a guy who is one of the premier closers in the American League, though, so doesn't that count for something? Would yesterday's game been drastically different if Alexei hit a 3-run homer in the 3rd?

A win is a win is a win is a win. Especially when you've lost 3 out of your last 4.

Imagine if Grebeck was at that same party. He could statistically show you why said party wasn't as good as previous parties and when to leave the party as it was beginning to trend down. :redneck:redneck:redneck

Remember the AJ production graph from Homefish? AJ should be batting .220 this year according to that. How did that work out?

Wow.. Grebeck isn't even here to defend himself. Funny nonetheless.

I just loved Hawk's line about the 9th inning comeback, "You can get us to 49, but you aint getting to 50" or something along those lines.
