Jaywalking tickets are nothing but an excuse for the city to get their hands in your wallet. Just like those cameras here at every stoplight, they do help with getting ppl to slow down but easy $$$ is their real purpose.

Maybe it's just me but I find myself speeding through the camera intersections to make sure I make it through before the light changes.

Funny story. I wonder if he was chatting with Mr. Rios.

I've never heard of a city being strict about this. Are there any other cities that will ticket you so easily?

My sister's friend got one in LA. Maybe it was just for actually walking there.

I was expecting this to do something with acquiring Rios from the Jays while he was in Seattle, not an actual news story!

Hilarious, because I really thought I was going to get nailed after the game - actually, the game hadn't ended, I bailed in the 8th of what was a pathetic game (really, they looked like a deflated team - something to do with Rios? - unmotivated, bored, and those center-cut pitches from Gavin and Pena were pathetic, but that's for a different thread). Anyway, the streets were empty as most fans were still in the stadium, and I jogged across the middle of a street about three miles from the park without realizing a cop was heading my way. I thought, "oh man, I know they love giving jaywalking tickets here" but thankfully the cop just kept right on driving. Then I read KW got one - too funny!

Kenny the Criminal!

It seems like a western US culture...LA was the only other city I ever saw a jaywalking ticket issued.

Seattle and LA are notorious for issuing jaywalking tickets. I know someone who got a jaywalking ticket in LA for crossing a street that was closed without going to the crosswalk. Crosswalk enforcement is also very strict in those cities. If you let your car roll into a crosswalk that has the light - even though no one is in it - and a policeman sees you, you'll get a ticket.

Wow I heard this on the radio and I thought Jaywalking was being used as a pun. Never thought it was serious.

Well, a jaywalker was killed here at bar time a few weeks ago.

Always better to be safe.

I think Milwaukee started "cracking down" a few years ago. I heard of a lot of students getting ticketed on campus.

When I was in Seattle for a week, I saw people jaywalking all the time, even with cops around. I wonder if they crack down more around sporting events because of the large amount of people.

My sister's friend got one in LA.My wife got one in LA, as well - for stepping off the curb about half a second before the light changed to "Walk".

Then again, the way people drive there, scaring pedestrians into staying on the sidewalk may well be in their best interests.

Maybe KW was with Rios, Rios didn't give an autograph and KW was just preventing him from swearing at anymore fans.

I don't know if anyone here is a fan of Adam Carolla, but he's been known to rant about the SoCal police departments and the jaywalking tickets they pass out.

This is absurd. I've never personally heard of this happening in Chicago. Chicago cops focus on fighting real crime. I've always thought that cops who ticket people for petty stuff like jaywalking and not wearing their seatbelts do so because they're too scared to get involved with fighting real crime.

I've been to a few cities in Europe where if there aren't any cars coming for miles and you walk across a street against a do not walk light, the locals literally,(and I'm using it correctly) hiss at you.

Is anyone else a fan of puns? I could probably think of a hundred considering the transaction that went down when this happened.

Anyone else find it strange that Kenny wasticketed $56 for this? Also, before someone else says it:

Oh my God! They ticketed Kenny!

I was listening to the Score and the story according to Cowley is funny.

Basically Kenny got out of a cab on the other side of the street and was crossing when a cop yelled at him to get out of the street. Kenny responded by saying "his own father doesn't even talk to him in that tone of voice." The cop told him he was jaywalking and Kenny responded that he does it all the time in Chicago. The cop then said that this wasn't Chicago. Kenny responded by saying "well obviously as the police in Chicago are actually working to solve crimes."

Allison Rosati is an idiot. She just reported on this with the lead "Another Chicago sports personality has trouble with a cab."

Why this is even on the news is a mystery let alone how it is associated with cab trouble.

Can't you see the media's bias towards the Cubs? If Lou Piniella did this, the media would've swept it under the rug.

That was my hangar18 impression for all you old school WSIer's.

That's an OK impression, except he would've used the word Cubune at least once, would've added his counter of number of articles about each team while ignoring the fact half the Cub articles are ripping Bradley and Soriano etc.
