Wow Linebrink is making more in one year than Thornton is in 3 combined.

And Quentin is making the exact same as Wise.

It also says that we have Ryan Braun in our minor leagues. Is this a big mistake or is there coincidentally another Ryan Braun?

Very cool site though

2009 payroll obligations for former players:
$2,650,000 (Mike MacDougal) (plus $0.35M 2010 buyout)

Oooh, I just felt all my loathing for Mike MacDougal return! That guy was such a waste, he should have worn the word on his jersey.

I think we've discussed Cot's Baseball Contracts here several times before. It is a great site, very detailed. It's always interesting for me to see the perks and/or escalators.

Hoosier, it's the way the game works. Sometimes your best players aren't getting the most money. Some "washed up" players are making multi-millions and some MVP/Cy Young-calibre players aren't even making a million a year.

I think there will continue to be more and more deals with teams trying to sign young players to bigger deals to lock them up past the arbitration years. The Sox tried to do it with TCQ, Danks, and Floyd. Floyd now has $15.5 million locked up with the possibility of $9.5 million more if the team picks up his 2013 club option. He will also have time to sign at least 1 or 2 more major league deals after this one. TCQ and Danks have the potential to get much more with an initial contract; however, they are guaranteed nothing more than what they are making this year.

It all depends on what a player is willing to do. If you asked some at this site what they would do, some would take the guaranteed multi-millions, others would take the risk and go for a bigger contract later on. I would be one of the ones to take the guaranteed millions. I could still make big $$$ in endorsements, signing shows, etc and if I'm doing a good job playing ball, I could sign an even bigger contract the next time.

Linebrink should be arrested for burglary.

Wow, the Sox shaved $25MM of payroll from 2008?! That's a big number- i tihnk they have some real flexibility for 2010

So there is a link there for obligations for 2009-2013 and the Sox have 45 million invested in the 2010 team not including Jake Peavy and Jermaine Dye, it looks like.

Money coming off:

Thome 13 Million
Contreras 10 Million
Dotel 6 Million
Castro 2.5 Million
Colon 1 Million

Dye possibly 12 Million
Total: 32.5 Million and possibly 44.5 depending on Dye's option.

Peavy will be 15 Million of that and if Rios were picked up he would be just under 10 Million.

There is 8.5 Million to play with, but some arbitration eligible players.

I believe Carrasco and Podsednik are also potential free agents.

Just regarding the Sox own free agents to me the priority must be Dye (to DH in 2010), then Carrasco, then Dotel, in that order.

Thanks Rock! I was needing some information like that the other day. MLB sites used to have that information. I don't know why they stopped listing it.

I believe DJ has only 3 years of ML service. So he won't be a free agent

Isn't his deal with the Sox up after this season?
