Last game at Yankees, at Twins, or make up versus the Cubs. He is familiar with the Cubs and does well against them, but the idea of him potentially running the bases worries me. Hopefully, his side session goes well.

Great news. Anything we get from him this year is wonderful. I agree about not wanting to see him run the bases if not necessary.

Agreed on that; I'd rather him not pitch vs the Cubs. No base running for him please.

Agreed. I figure he and Buehrle will start Games I and II, so no baserunning will take place there. Given our recent history, there won't be any Game V, so no need to worry about that, either.

IMO, I'd like to see his first start be game 1 in the dome. Maybe the Sox just need a newcomer to come and end the streak of futility. The Twins haven't seen him much, if at all. Winning the first game of the series would be a huge boost of confidence.

And not just ESPN, but Bruce Levine!

Jeez, it's not like he will be running the bases a million times...He would most likely get 3 or 4 at bats, that's it! I have no worries about that. I want him pitching against the Cubs. He's the one far most prepared for it anyways.

He's faced the flubs 8 times in his career.

Buehrle has faced them 11 times.

So, Buehrle doesn't have nearly as much NL experience. That's all Peavy's been doing!

? Burls has more experience with facing the Cubs than Peavy. Buehrle has more home runs (1) this year than Peavy (0) despite Peavy having more at-bats, so that should count for something.

The only peraon whose NL experience is relevant is Ozzie since he's the Manager and makes the decisions about pinch hitting the Ninth position, double switches, etc...

I don't care about home run totals, and I don't care that Buehrle has 3 more starts against the Cubs. What I care about is that Peavy has been a career NL pitcher, so that would be the best place to pitch him after having a couple months off.

I understand why you feel that way, but he's not facing the NL, he's facing the flubs. I don't think it matters that much. Did he even face them this year? When Jake is ready, he should face the first team he can.

That would be the first game in NY, not the last. Just for clarification.

I went to a Cub game (http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20090512&content_id=4687430&vkey=wrapup2005&fext=.jsp&team=home&c_id=chc) this year which was a Peavy game. Peavy lost.

Well if he did well. If he got lit up I would never hear the end of it man.

Bummer, I was hoping for the 4th. That's the first game vs. the Red Sox at home and not only do I have choice seats, but that's my brother's birthday and he's a huge Red Sox fan.

Nothing would thrill me more than a big White Sox win that night, but if Peavy makes his debut, that would be even better.

Bingo. Having Jake Peavy start for the Sox is already ****in' sweet. Having him debut against the Baby Bears would be ball-tingling ****in' sweet.

Honestly, I think it will be sweet no matter who he plays against that early.

It wasn't at the game I attended.

I know, it was in San Diego. In fact, it happened the day he turned down the trade to the White Sox. Did we see many "Karma's a bitch, baby!!!!!!" posts after that?

EDIT: It was the day after, not the same day.

He actually has faced them this year. He injured his leg in a game against the Cubs.

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't Peavy need to make an appearance for the Sox before September in order to be playoff eligible? I don't think the Padres starts count for the Sox, so I would think he starts in that last week of August. I could be wrong though.

No, he's on the team so it doesn't matter.

He only has to be on the roster as of September 1. It does not matter if he plays or not.

Per Rongey from the Jim Beam Club,

If Peavy is ready after tomorrow, then he'll be sent down to Charlotte, expected back Thursday.

Expected back where?

I don't know where, BUT update from Reifert's twitter is that he threw 50 pitches today with no problems, he's headed down to Charolette to throw a bullpen session on Monday and start there on Thursday. Aug 13 for those keeping track.

You have to be on the 25 man roster or the DL.

In 2005 Crede was on the DL on August 31 but was allowed to play in the postseason, obvously.

Might start as early as August 23rd @ home vs BAL, depending on how he feels.

You all know by now, but what I said was that if all goes well he would likely make a start for Charlotte on Thursday. He's not gonna be back here (as in, with the Sox) for a couple of weeks, at least.
