Even Scarier:

There are two of us now:

Me :versatile

And me - versatile the younger:

:versatile

I love this quote: "The Sox continue to use the draft to stock up on pitching and rely on their successful scouting in Latin countries for position players.

"I think we've proven it here with Carlos (Lee) and Magglio (Ordonez)," White Sox Senior Director of Player Personnel Duane Shaffer said."

I guess that's why we have neither a major league shortstop nor a major league third baseman.

The Sox drafted four catchers, including Trinity International's Jeremy Paul, the younger brother of Sox catcher Josh Paul, a second-round pick in 1996 who is currently at Triple-A Charlotte. Shaffer said Jeremy Paul will likely start out at Bristol or Kannapolis, both Single-A clubs .

Just what we need, some more versatility!

Why are we always drafting a relative of a current player and or manager?

The Sox continue to use the draft to stock up on pitching and rely on their successful scouting in Latin countries for position players.

then why haven't they sign fa's from there........ like other clubs.

Everyone does, where there are 70 rounds of a draft, it gives teams room to do a favor or two, and sometimes it works out.

Yeah, wasn't Mike Piazza originally drafted as a favor to Tommy Lasorda?

The worst I saw was when Dale Torborg was drafted as a favor to Jeff Torborg. I used to watch him regularly whiff in the Carolinas League, clearly inferior to other A League players.

You mean this Dale Torborg, surprized we haven't signed him this year.[URL=http://www.genickbruch.com/profile/Bios/139.html/URL]

Yep. That's the one. I forgot that Dale Torborg became a wrestler after flopping in baseball. Rooney was recalling some fight Torborg got into during his minor league career, though I can't remember who the unlucky opponent was. I think there was an old Sox catcher in the early 70s, Tom Egan, who wound up being a better wrestler than catcher, too.

Harry Caray once observed about Egan, after one of his overthrows into centerfield: "I wish he could hit it that far!"

A jester of goodwill.... The Sox did the same with Joe Crede's kid brother. He had gotten into a severe car crash during high school put was able to recover and play ball his senior year. Though he did not take the Sox up on their offer.
