I know it is only the first inning but he looks very solid. Good for him. He has a perfect game going through one.

I'll be keeping an eye on this game. I honestly want him to flourish, and the NL seems the best place for him to do that.

The NL and Petco...no better place to pitch! I'll root for Clayton. Seemed like a good, hard working kid. He could survive for a while in that place - until he starts earning real money and gets traded somewhere. (I wouldn't mind seeing him back here in a few years.)

2/9ths to a perfect game!

Go Clayton, go!

We can make that 1/3rd of the way to the perfecto!

Wonder if Burls slipped some "BurlyMon Magic" into Richard's briefcase before he left.

Richard threw great his last two starts. Maybe he took notes during Buerhle's perfecto. 4 hitless innings so far.

I guess Burlymon did rub off on him!

Burls said that he was a great team mate and a great guy to have around aswell.

Decent start for Clayton: ND 5.2 2H 1R 1ER 3bb 5K. Threw a lot of pitches, starting falling behind guys. But all in all, he's got to look at it as a success.

Sounds like a lot of the starts he put up for the Sox, but I wish Clayton the best.

I hope Clayton goes on to post a 13-144 career for San Diego. He is ANYTHING but a stand-up guy...

Ha I was actually just trying to break the consistency of everyone gushing over him. I just hate using teal.

Thank God. I was dying to ask for details.

All the best, Clayton!

It was always that third time through the lineup that gave Clayton trouble which is why he probably maxes out at a #4 or #5 type starter. He could be a valuable piece for the Padres though and will probably do well in the NL pitching at Petco.

Well they've got a decent QB already....

He is the Padre's second best starter now, more a reflection on the Pads than him of course.

I have been in Clayton's corner all along and continue to think he is going to be better than fans give him credit for...95mph fastball, lefty, good changeup and slider?
I think he could be a #2 guy on a good staff.
I like getting Jake, but he was not cheap.
The Padres are going to profit from this trade.
Wish we could have kept Clayton or Aaron...I love leftys.

KW and Ozzie love lefties too, but they said once that they weren't going to go with three of them in the same rotation, and since Buehrle and Danks are locked in, Clayton was the expendable guy.

I listened to part of the game on XM, CR did a nice job and I think he will be very happy in San Diego. Good luck to him!

I hope he does well for himself there, becomes an All-Star even. He never caused any problems here, did what we asked of him. If this deal turns out bad for us because who we lost turn out great, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Congrats to Clayton who picked up his first win as a Padre (http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200908075963181&c_id=sd) and he even got an RBI sigle too. (http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?mid=200908065961621&c_id=sd)

Make us proud, Clayton. We need one of the young guys we've traded away to pan out pretty soon, otherwise people are going to be suspicious of dealing with us. :D:

That's actually funny because it's true. Not all of Kenny's deals are steals, but when he wins in one, boy does he win.

Also, Clayton seemed like a good kid, so I do wish him the best.

Richard is probably ELATED that he'll be pitching against the National League. So far, so good. He goes from a 4 or 5 guy to a 2 or 3.

Anybody see the Mets' lineup he faced, with all their injuries? Brutal.

There is some truth to this. TBH though, Olivo didn't suck and did well after leaving Seattle. Morse and Reed sure did suck though.

Clayton hasn't been doing very well lately. He hasn't lasted past 5 innings since being with the Padres. He lasted 3.2 Innings in his last start vs the Cardinals, giving up 3 runs and walking 6.

Josh Fogg once started for the NL pennant winner. In fact it wasn't too long ago. If he can do it Richard sure can.

Fogg and Wells were competent. Competent is all we needed to win at least one division from 01-04.
