I'm not talking about just the headline. The whole article has a few interesting quotes.

Once again, I fear fans will take what Buehrle says out of context.

Kenny might look at extending MB's deal ,tacking on a couple of years with nice paydays for him. Cowley made it sound more ominous that it really was...I saw a quote that had MB joking about ''ace'' money. MB is not a guy that will make a stink about being the second paid guy on the staff...until he wins a Cy Young, anyway.

I don't see Buehrle as being the type of guy that will bitch and cry about making $2-3 million less than Peavy the next few years.

Although Buehrle has accomplished so much in baseball, he still has not won a CY Young award. Peavy is getting paid CY Young award money.

Maybe we're talking extension with Buehrle?

Doesn't Buehrle have 2 more years after this one?

Just speculating. I don't agree with signing him for an extra year right now, but I'm wondering why there's any talk of him "cashing in" with so much left on his contract.

FWIW, in todays Trib,
" If I'm not the highest- paid pitcher here, we're going to talk because we have problems," Buehrle said, apparently in jest.

That comment reeks of Buehrle's sarcasm.

The quote there and in the Sun Times was clearly in jest, he was talking about walking away at the end of this contract to spend more time with his kids; I suspect that money is not really playing a large factor into whether or not Mark will re-sign with us.

Some of the quotes in the article are prime examples of how spoken words can completely be taken out of context when written. Does anyone here really think the Buehrle--who took a discount to stay here--is gonna complain about a contract that wasn't even constructed by the Sox.

regardless of the trade, Burly Mon's established himself as one of the premier pitchers in the game and gonna command more bucks to resign

He'll be here unless he's serious about retiring. Then he'll be a Cardinal for a year or 2. Or I could be completely wrong. Not like I talk to Buehrle or anything.

I'm sure MB is joking, but on the off chance that he isn't, give him whatever he wants. He's earned it.
