Bright spot continues to be Gordon...his last 40 games he is hitting .345 with 29 RBI's...that is a pretty awesome quarter/season for any player let alone a rookie one year out of college.

He has been our best hitter the last 40 games, no doubt about it.

I agree. 1-5 since MB's perfecto. It is our worst stretch of ball all season, and it comes vs the two teams we are battling. This is a stretch we could have taken command of the division, but instead we are stuck in the mud..but still only two back. If they win the three games they should have won in this stretch that they blew...would be a few games up right now...oh well..get'em tomorrow.

This is one of the reasons why I can't wait for this craphole to be blown up. People say it's not the dome's fault and I agree, the Sox should have scored more. But bad memories like tonight are the reason why I hate this place. Buehrle pitched his heart out thru 6 innings, got the impressive record only to get a ****ing loss! Nothing but bad memories in this place!

4 MORE GAMES!

I'm at a total loss for words. We keep finding new ways to lose in Minnesota so I guess the only solution is to never play there again.

As bad as the defense is...you think the Sox would've played that terribly/braindead anywhere else? Not blaming the dome, but apparently the Sox are.

Congrats to #56 on setting a new record and way to go Gordon! Keeping that ROY campaign alive...just wish he could jumpstart the rest of our hitters....

Another good effort from Mark. Kind of surprised Ozzie let him go out for the 7th even with the pitch count being low. Thought he looked tired all night even though he was effective for the first 5.2 innings. Once he gave up a walk, hit and run, it was time to let him sit, IMO. Oh well, at least the kittens lost too.

2 games back so from a big picture perspective nothing has changed. Win tomorrow and get back home.

The team is back into one of its hitting funks and who knows when it will come out of it. The dumb dome has nothing to do with it. It might not be until next week when they find their strokes again. They didn't even hit well in the Tampa series. 5 or 6 hits a game doesn't cut it. Expect things to worsen before they get better. Right now they look awful. Everybody is right about Wise. Get him out of the starting lineup and keep him out.

Perhaps we should start thinking about launching Ozzie...fundamentals has always been a problem for his teams...the players change but the same poor defense remains...his in-game managerial skill is non existent...maybe we need a manager that insists on excellence.

Detroit sucked until they played us...

The Twins sucked until we came to town...

This team needs a blockbuster trade enema.

It is Indefensible for Wise to have bat in the 9th. Ozzie's just in la la land when it comes to his irrational love of DeWayne Wise. And it's hurting this team. Ozzie simply doesn't give a **** that Wise is batting .180.....it simply does not affect his use of Wise.

Fields was sent down. It would have been a good spot for him to hit, although there's zero chance he would have had it been Wise batting.

Good thing this team is so fundamentally sound. I mean all we ever here from Ozzie, Joey Cora and the gang every march is this sound commitment to fundamentals. I mean, without our great ability to play solid defense and execute offensively and doing the little things like hitting and running and bunting right, we would be so bad.

Actually, screw that, I am tired of hearing about it. There is no commitment to fundamentals on this team. We have one of the worst up the middle defenses in baseball, and it continually costs us runs and games. If we get swept, we will be looking back in september when we are sweating making the playoffs as a series that (a) kept us from burying the twins and (b) Taking control of first place.

I am tired of just punting the games in Minnesota. Every year its a big excuse, or we lose because of the stadium. Man up, play the game, quit sucking and play hard.

A few observations from being at the game in person:

Visiting teams must not see the ball well in the dome. Both the folded OF seats in the batters eye and the turf are shiny and reflect spots of light. I think this can explain both poor swings and poor throws (misjudging distance).

Twins fans I observed are both polite and unclassy at the same time. They were polite to me and I did not hear any foul language. But their cheers in the sixth were not cheers of respect for Buehrle or his accomplishment (even though Buehrle tipped his cap when walking off the field); they genuinely dislike the Sox and were pleased to see him fail.

Even the worst players on the Twins are fundamentally sound. It is not honest to make the same claim about our roster.

It is a miracle Buehrle just set the record with that **** defense behind him. Pods/Wise/Dye might be the most laughable outfield trio in baseball defensively.

For the life of me I cant understand what happened on that Getz ground ball.

What a frustrating team to follow.

The runner was going. With a RHH at the plate and a runner going, it's the second baseman's job to cover the bag for the throw so the SS doesn't open up the hole on the leftside you most likely expect the hitter to pull the ball through.

Crede did a good job of staying back and hitting to the opposite field through the hole that Getz had vacated. The runner easily made third since he was breaking on the pitch.

Hope that helps explain this obvious play.

As soon as Pods missed Mauer's ball, I knew we were doomed. That's how the Sox act in the dome. At the first sign of adversity, it all goes to hell.

Too bad, because the Sox are missing chance after chance to make up ground in the division.

At least they made a push in the ninth.

He wrote that the Sox would be done long before that road trip even took place.

Maybe he should get a lottery ticket.

And yes, after four years of talking endlessly about "fundamentals" in spring training I'm tired of seeing what passes for it on the field when the Sox are on defense. I've seen more fundamentally sound high school and American Legion teams.

Maybe Ozzie and the staff are doing the best they can and the players themselves are simply 'baseball-stupid' in these situations. (Think of a team of Carlos Lee's)

The Twins have to bring in Nathan to get one out to end the game with a two-run lead and a runner on first, and people are upset that Guillen didn't pinch-hit for Wise?

If Anderson had been coming up the game (a historical hypothetical), Wise would have pinch-hit for him. If Nix had been coming up and Wise was on the bench, Wise would have been hitting for him.

Of course, if Thome were healthy, Thome would have been hitting. But if Thome were healthy, Thome would have been in the starting lineup.

Wise didn't lose the game any more than any individual on the Sox lost the game. Really, it was a team effort.

As good as Buehrle was for 5.2 innings, he only Morneau and Gomez his third time through the order. Maybe Mauer should have been retired, but the Gomez out was a sacrifice. The Twins obviously had Buehrle figured out.

Of course, if the Sox had scored six runs, they would have won. If they only get one run though eight and don't put anyone on until they get two out, it probably isn't going to happen.

Maybe this will be recalled by Twins fans the way Sox fans recall the Jose Paniaugua game. In WSI style, a Twins board wouldn't be gushing over the win, but whining about how lousy the bullpen must be, or at least the manager, for requiring a save from Nathan tonight.

If the Sox win tomorrow's game, they will tie the season series with the Twins. Fortunately, the Twins have as much trouble winning in Chicago as the White Sox have winning in Minneapolis.

The Sox should just rotate the IF around. Move TCM back to 2b, Beckham to SS and the Getz/Nix Combo to 3rd. It can not be any worse. Atleast we know we are upgrading the SS and 2b positions.

The Sick thing is I have no idea how to feel. Part of me is thankful to everything holy that our division is by far the worst in baseball and we are somehow still in the thick of it. However, that means in the world of Kenny, an 86 win first round exit again is a success, and we see the same crap next year.

I just don't know whats the lesser or 2 evils is anymore.

Wow, well the Sox must be the only team in baseball who would hit or pinch hit a .185 hitter with a sub .550 OPS for the last out in a two run game.

The fact that he is even on the team says enough, but people (including the manager) actually think he is the best option in that situation. That is just insane.

I'm not talking about the last decade. I'm not talking about 2007. Last year the Sox won one game in Minnesota. The Twins won two games in Chicago. And Game 163 went to the Sox in Chicago. This year the Twins won two games in their first two series in Chicago. The Sox won one game in their first two series, with one game left, in Minnesota.

The Twins these last two seasons have been losers in Chicago. And it isn't like the Cell is that much different from other places the Twins play on the road, at least as they compare to the Metrodome.

We played some ****ty defense, which seems to coincide well with that dump. 1-5 so far on a crucial 7 game road trip, tomorrow might decide our season.

This team is flawed defensively. We have known this for a while. It's going to cost us games and series from time to time. It's frustrating as hell to waste good pitching because of it.

However, even if we get swept tomorrow, the most we can be is 3 games out of 1st with over 2 months to play. That hardly decides a season.

I almost wish we could keep Ozzie, just demote him to bench coach. He is a good motivator, especially since he pretty much keeps the guys he can motivate and does his best to work around the ones he doesn't mesh with. But the 2 problems I have with him are (1) He tends to manage from he Managing Baseball for Dummies book. When a lefty bats, bring in a lefty pitcher. When I righty pitcher is on the mound, hit a lefty. Someone who runs fast is a good baserunner etc. He seems to ignore the stats and probability. (2) Every damn spring training we hear about his monsterous commitment to fundamentals. How they are GOING TO BE defensively sound, do the little things. For years we heard the excuse was Ozzie did not have the right players for his system. Well this year he does. He is hand picking his 25 man roster with almost no say from Kenny.

I was one of the biggest don't give Orlando Hudson that money to start the year, but maybe it would have been money tremendously well spent.

You know, I'm kind of reading between the lines here, but I think I may be onto something. With all the accusations of cheating in the dome of horrors, (some by me:smile:) do you think it could be possible that the Twins have in their possession some sort of White Sox Mind Confusion Ray? For example, they have someone aim the ray at Getz, he gets confused, breaks right when he should break left. Podsednik closing in to catch that fly ball, hit him with the ray, he forgets to put his glove up to catch the ball. If you think about it, it's as good an explanation as anyones as to why we play so bad in that dome. White Sox Mind Confusion Ray, you heard this rumor here first.

Haha, I feel the same way. I literally about a week ago said this to my wife "How does Ozzie feel good about Neal Cotts [who was fantastic in 2005] face right handed hitters, but Matt Thornton is relegated to loogy duty" (and yes, its fantastic who have a wife who knows what a loogy means).

Even with Brian and Wise back then, the platoon would have been fine, if Brian was facing righties who he was hitting better, and wise vs lefties who at the time (who knows where his splits are now, too disgusted with him to look them up) was hitting them better.
