Everyone keeps talking about the Sox tough schedule but the Cubs schedule is much tougher the rest of the year than it has been up to this point. I really can't see them winning the Central but they should be in the hunt for the wild card.

I don't know much about the NL Central, but I do know that the Cards now have Pujols surrounded by Holliday, DeRosa, and Ludwick (who has been playing great).

Today is going to be rough. My TV will probably be off all sports related talk shows. But I don't see this lasting more than a few days before the Cards run away with the division for good.

That blown call at home was a terrible one. Hill wasn't even close on tagging him. Changes the entire game around. Cubs blew it open after that.

Laz Diaz was totally out of position to make that call. Where the hell was he standing?

Eh, I'd agree with that had so many of the Cubs been playing to their career norms all year. The fact that they haven't is the only reason the Cubs aren't up by 10 games or more. In the last 10 games, most of the guys on that team having sub-par years (Soriano and Bradley for instance) are starting to hit.

With Ramirez back in that lineup and Soto due back soon, Not to mention a better starting staff and pen, the Cards better hope the Cubs play bad ball the rest of the year.

Why we need full instant replay in baseball. Meanwhile, keep in mind that the only reason the Cubs are where they are is because seven of their last eight victories came at the hands of cupcakes (Washington, Cincinnati). The fact remains that the Cubs cannot beat good teams, something we ourselvs can actually do in spite of our own present problems. At the same time, the Cardinals did have bad Arizona but then had surging Houston and powerhouse Philadelphia.

But there are too many variables that happen in baseball. I agree to an extent, but what happens with runners advancing and stuff?

Sure they played bad teams of late, but you gotta hand it to them of late. They're hot. My hats off to them, but hopefully it won't last long

Had we taken care of business here in Detroit we would have been in 1st place too.

True that. And there's still a way to go. The Cubs may win their division, but so what?

We need to win ours...and go from there. Tonight would be a good place to start, then on to the Crapdome.

Eh, no big deal. There's just over 2 months in the regular season. A lot can and will happen between now and then.

Keep in mind the Cubs are a mediocre 140mil dollar team. This is their last hurrah. There are only a few quality teams with quality pitching in the NL. You saw what happened when they played Philly. The Cubs can beat up on all the bad pitching that exists in the NL especially the NL Central. When they go against a quality arm they struggle mightly. Remember this is a team whose outfield consists of Sorriano(overrated bad), Fukidome(mediocre at best) Bradley(nuts and bad). Teams do not win with these types of players. The Cardinals will more than likely win that division.

Also keep in mind that Hendry's hands are tied as far as improving the ballclub is concerned.

Last year was allegedly the greatest Cubbie team ever. The White Sox were still playing when that Cubbie team's season ended.

This Cubbie team is not very good. The Cubbie faithful have their Inner Cubbie singing to them right now. Pity them, for they do not yet know that their team sucks.

I have complete faith in my second favorite team running away with the NL Central.

The Cubs have no Albert Pujols....they are in first place beating up on the Nationals & Reds.

After watching Philly destroy the Cardinals I seriously doubt that the Scrubbies have much of a chance at all....even if they win the division which is highly unlikely they would have to face a powerhouse like Philly and personally the Cards are way better than the scrubs by a long shot. Whats sucks is all of the attention that's always paid to the scrubs who suck anyway. To me the Scrubs being in first right now is the same as the old axiom that eventually a blind squirrel will find a nut. Expect this first place standing for the Cubs to be short lived however.

Whether they're playing the dodgers or the nationals, sweeping a team is impressive.

Or sweeping the Reds for that matter. That lineup the Reds feature is God awful. The big difference between bad AL teams and bad NL teams is that bad AL teams still have tough lineups that can hurt you. (Orioles and Indians come to mind) One look at the Reds and Nationals starting 9 and you wonder how they score any runs at all.

We wound up a bad Bobby Jenks outing short of sweeping the Rays. This same Rays team would have taken at least three of four from the Cubs.

When the Sox make it to first place will the tribune have the front section of their news with a picture of us saying FIRST PLACE, and the sports section front page saying FIRST PLACE.... FINALLY??

Also, will the Sun Times have the first five pages of the back completely dedicated to us when we get into first place?

Truly, I did not know that getting into first place was such a big deal. For years the Tribune and sun- times have been holding back on this since both teams are rarely in first place. I mean, it is such a rarity for the Sox.

I can't wait for the dedicated coverage once we get first place. I can see it now: White Sox FIRST PLACE... AGAIN- NO COVERAGE OF LAST FIRST PLACE BID BECAUSE THEY MUST COME BACK FROM DEFICIT LIKE TEAM IN BLUE!

the Sun-times will have 5 pages of White Sox news, but will find a way to relate the great first place achievement with the Cubs first place achievement and compare which one is better. The winner will be the Cubs. After all, they had to overcome so much.

OR- and this is the safer bet.

The White Sox will get 2 pages of coverage with a half page photo on the front of the Sports section of the trib sports section, and back section of the Sun-Times.

All is fair in Chicago, all is fair.

I have to agree with most of you. The front page headline is a bit too much but the Cubs are very popular here and that sells papers. It is annoying though.

I might have to take a vacation if the Cubs do ever win a World Series.

Didn't feel like starting another thread. The Cubs just lit up Mike Hampton for six runs in the first inning, sending ten guys to the plate. My favorite Cubbie fan moment was when the kid (he didn't look like a full-grown adult) caught Soriano's home run and celebrated like he just won the lottery.

The Astros are not a very good team. I mean, they play Geoff Blum everyday. It shows how pathetic the NL Central is that the Astros are right in the middle of the race.
