Unless Quentin is truly still hurt, Holliday would go straight to the bench, wouldn't he?

Right, I dont think we need another OF, unless Quentin is hurt.

Unless they want to have an OF on the books for this year as protecton for Quentin's foot, as well as a potential big bat for next year losing Thome (a move for Dye to DH).

He IS hurt.

The only thing I could see is Fields getting moved in a deal like this and having Holliday rotate around LF, DH and 1B. I don't know if he plays 1B though.

I can't see trading for Holliday - not if Brett Wallace is the cost. However, I'd LOVE to see us add George Sherril to an already strong bullpen. That being said, I'm glad we have a GM who is always in the mix. Let's see how this next few weeks play out. I still would not be surprised if Williams goes for it...Haren? Holliday? Halliday? Who knows? I'm sure he is looking...

What would it take to get Sherrill? I don't see Holliday coming to the Sox at all

That's been my little private wet dream ever since the Peavy trade didn't happen.

Holliday is a Boras client and will test the FA market after this season.

Where is the mention of Sherill to the Sox?

In that case, **** all that noise.

Third paragraph from the bottom. We are mentioned as "being in the mix" for him, along with the Dodgers, Brewers, and Angels.

You're right, my bad. For some reason I thought his contract was for '09 and '10. However, who knows, if he continues to play this way, we could get him for a lot cheaper than expected.

That does suck. I'd like to think that maybe he would sign for a reasonable, market value contract, but it's hard to believe anyone who has Boras as an agent isn't looking to break the bank.

If the cardinals are willing to trade Brett Wallace for him, I wouldn't want to see us try to top that.

Holliday will be a Cardinal today

Maybe Billy will give us a discount after the Swisher debacle...

Given that Holliday to the Cards has been rumored since last night, I'm not buying the initial report.

I know this thread is moot, but this post reminds me of a comment I heard on the radio from an A's assistant GM a few days ago. He said the A's would love to keep Holliday for the future and would love to sign him to an extension. But with his agent, that is not possible.

Many teams simply can't/won't deal with Holliday's agent. The Dodgers have openly discussed boycotting Holliday's agent.

I'm sure Holliday's agent wanted to get his client out of Oakland to put up better numbers elsewhere. I don't think Holliday did much in the 16-1 win against the Twins Wednesday, although he had a great game in the 14-13 win against the Twins Monday. It's such a pitcher's park in Oakland.

Sox trade prospects for Sherrill (Fields/Richard esque combo), then better prospects(Jor.Danks+Poreda) + Jenks for Halladay? That would be a KW-esque move.

I'd love to add another arm in the pen for the stretch, but there is no way we get Holiday. Especially with the asking price being what is is, unless it's all false. Plus, isn't he a FA after this season? If we were to sign him for LF, shift TCQ into RF and put Dye at DH for next season that could be worth something. I still don't see it happening.

Holiday has already been traded to the Cardinals.
