I found this patch on ebay, and was wondering if anyone here might know whether or not the Sox used this one in the 1970's? If so, was this one for the home or road jersey? Any help would be appreciated. http://cgi.ebay.com/OLD-1960s-LOGO-CHICAGO-WHITE-SOX-STITCHED-PATCH-UNSOLD_W0QQitemZ200355776360QQcategoryZ25132QQcmdZ ViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC RS1%252BSIC%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DMRU-64482%252BUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BFICS%252BUFI%26otn %3D15%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D54

This appears to be a knockoff of a logo the Sox used in the period from 1971 through 1975. It's not very accurate either.

That patch was never worn on a jersey, at least I've never seen a picture of it.

For the record, the 1971-5 red jerseys featured a patch on the home pinstripes, but not on the road blues:

The road blues, of course, had the player's uni number on the left sleeve where the patch was on the home set. The left sleeve, to my knowledge, remained unadorned for those 4 years.

As a side note, the Sox also featured a "white sock" logo on their stirrups:

The "pajama" uniforms from 1976-81 never had any team-specific patches on it. Heck, I don't recall ever seeing any patches worn on those uniforms.

Where is a good place to get patches? I'm guessing someone will tell me Grandstand and eBay. Where else?

That's what I would like to know. The one I posted in the link looked kind of funny, so I thought I would do my homework before I bought it. Unfortunately, most of the patches on Ebay are fakes. I would like to find one from the 71-75 era, but have had no luck at all.

Try patchcollectibles.com (609.268.6680). I bought some patches from them a few years ago. The owner was very knowledgable and helpful.

There is a place in Orland Park right across the street from the Orland Park Mall called "The Collectors Sports Gallery" that has some patches and other really cool sports collecters items. The hours are sort of odd though because its just two people that own it and it seems like it's open when they feel like it.

I was able to get a new Comiskey Park opening Day patch from them.

That is their address and phone number.

Good Luck!

That patch might not have been on a uniform, but I remember similar styles of art being on T shirts and such.

this is not a uniform patch

nor is it a knockoff

it it a hat patch that was usually found on winter caps (with the pom pom on top)

or sometime sewn onto kids jackets (usually seen on jackets with many other teams patches, maybe 15 of them, like an mlb jacket)

I can only hope to someday be the Sox fan you are. Impressive as hell. :worship:
