For those unfamiliar with it, "When It Was a Game" was a series of three documentaries about baseball's Golden Age, from the late 30's to the mid-50's. If you're into old parks, vintage uniforms, etc. it's absolute gold.

Someone was kind enough to post some screen grabs from WIWAG and FSN's "Golden Age of Baseball". Links are courtesy of Uniwatch Blog.

Some of my favorites:

I love these jackets (http://picasaweb.google.com/larrymb52/Wiwag2#5356237467913190130).
Isn't that Luke Appling (http://picasaweb.google.com/larrymb52/Wiwag2#5356239242893215266) in the background?
This grab's a bit blurry, but it looks like Billy Pierce (http://picasaweb.google.com/larrymb52/GoldenbaseballFox#5356364595537509234).

These are priceless! Stirrups on all players, pennants on a stick held by excited kids, athletes looking like they actually enjoy the game...you don't see that anymore. This would have been a great time to be alive and a baseball fan.

I'll have to search down this documentary as I think it would be interesting to watch. I was born in the 70's so I missed it all!

Thanks for the post!

Actually When It Was A Game III which came out in 2000, is specifically just on the 1960's.

Golden Age is basically a series by the same people who did When It Was using the footage that wasn't used in When It Was A Game plus on camera interviews and a reuse of footage that was used in When It Was.
