Despite Fenway Park being thrown out as a possibility due to 2012 being its 100-year anniversary, it looks like the mid-season classic will be held at Kaufman Stadium in 2012.

2014 is the 100th anniversary of the urinal. That could be unbearable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they had to get that travelling dome from Kauffman to the football stadium in order to receive the A.S. game? Did that get done?

Good to see KC finally get one. When 2012 rolls around, it would have been 39 years since their last.

That's the wonderful thing about the MLB All-Star Game, everybody has the opportunity to host one, regardless of market size. Cities like Pittsburgh and Kansas City have just as good of a chance of hosting one as Los Angeles and New York.

It looks really nice on T.V., so I'm sure it will be cool, despite being in KC and the Royals and all.

I know the ASG will be in Anaheim next year but what about 2011? Has anyone heard for certain?

EDIT: Arizona. I guess I should have looked it up BEFORE I posted :kukoo:

They are not doing the dome (more of a shared field cover actually), not enough funding to make it happen.

My understanding is that the ASG was promised in exchange for the improvements that were actually made. The NFL, on the other hand, had suggested that Arrowhead would get at least one Super Bowl if the dome part of the project was completed.

Good for KC. Be nice to see a "small market" town get an MLB shot in the arm.

Why? They've hosted it before. Nobody was forced to attend the game in person who did not want to go there.

I was in KC during the 4th of July weekend. Kauffman is an awesome place to watch a baseball game. By far my favorite stadium to watch a game in. Of course, I would rather have good teams to watch any day over great stadium experience.

That's awesome!

Kaufman is shaping up to be one of the nicest parks in baseball.

I would assume some development around the park will be added.

No. There were two measures on the ballot that year (I forget exactly what year it was, but recently). One measure was for improvements to Kauffman. The second measure was for the "rolling dome type thing." MLB said that if the first measure passed, they would get the A/S game. The first one passed, the second one did not.

It probably will fall down before then.

Yes, but there was a lot of talk going around about Fenway getting it for the 100-year anniversary. Thankfully that did not happen.

I doubt they'll do it at Wrigley for the 100th anniversary. If they did, they may as well put the ASG in Boston in 2012. 2012 is also the 50th anniversary of Dodgers Stadium. For that matter, they should have given the Angels the 2016 game instead of the 2010 game to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Angel Stadium.

I made of list of NL teams who are good candidates to get the ASG before the Cubs in another thread:

I'd rather see the Expos host it before the Cubs do again.

No teal implied.

The Mets hosted in 1964, while much of the NL has hosted twice since then.

In a possible Wrigley ASG, I'd rather not hear about how great the place is, how its the best baseball park of all time, ivy, sellouts, great fans blah blah blah. And it's been around for 100 years!

I hear enough of that BS already.

If it was so great we would have been hearing it all along, not just since 1984.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did get it for the 100th anniversary, especially since they haven't had an ASG at Wrigley since 1990 (IIRC).

I was born in 1984. I don't know the days where Wrigley Field wasn't praised in every sentence in which it was mentioned. Though my Dad tells me about when hardly anyone showed up for Cubs games back in the 70's.

Whenever the media spends 15 minutes fawning over Wrigley's history, tradition, etc, I am very tempted to send them the clip of Lee Elia bluntly stating the truth that the only people who came out to the Cubs games then were losers with no jobs who had nothing better to do than boo them. Those were the good old days... or so I am told by the people who were actually alive then :redneck

I was there for the 4th game as well. That park as a very intimate feel that i loved. I am definitely going back there.

I'm glad to see Kansas City get the game. The city deserves to showcase itself despite having a crappy team for 25 years.

And why would Wrigley get the All Star Game in 2014 when that's the year for an AL team to host?

And I find it so amazing that the Mets, especially being from New York, have not hosted since 1964. Give them the 2013 game.
