Had a 7 run lead and give up 3 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, and 10 in the 8th. I can't believe anything on that team wouldn't be available for a trade, even Haren!

It's absolutely amazing to me how fast they've fallen. Just 14 months ago, Sports Illustrated published a piece on the Diamondbacks' rebuilding efforts and called them MLB's "model organization." (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/05/06/snakes.alive0512/index.html) That was published May 6, 2008. On May 18, they were 28-16, the best record in baseball. Since then, they're 90-113 (.443).

Giving a large contract to poor-hitting Eric Byrnes.
Trading 6 top prospects for 1 pitcher.
Losing some good players to FA.
Some players just go worse on them.

They still have a nice stadium. That is something positive, isn't it?

What I can tell you about the D-Backs is that I have Justin Upton on my fantasy team and he's been pretty awesome.

As do I. I also have Max Scherzer who is pretty damn solind for a young starter.

The best part about it is that I did not have him to start, and someone in my league dropped him early on as I don't believe he was doing so hot. I said to myself, "I really can't miss out on this opportunity," picked him up, and he's been great ever since.

I picked up Mark Reynolds right as he started his hot streak. He's been carrying my team.

It seems like they have some solid individuals, but the overall team is wrought with issues. Oh, and their defense is beyond horrendous.

The Eric Byrnes contract was ridiculous. I remember at the time thinking it was foolish despite the fact that Byrnes was coming off a solid season. He hasn't even come close to duplicating that 2007 season. 3 years, $30 million contract for him too. Teams were handing out ridiculous long term free agent contracts like candy a few years ago.

They gave Russ Ortiz a 4 year $33 million dollar contract just for breathing.......

They do???? I guess if you like watching a game in an airplane hangar with a minor league atmosphere and an endless parade of gimmicks between innings.

Baseball Weekly reported that GM Josh Byrnes didn't want to give him that deal, but Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick wanted the deal done. I feel badly for Eric Byrnes, as the "fans" here boo him non-stop. Hey, it's not his fault the team offered him that contract. What was he supposed to do, not take it?

This made kurkgems. The third time ever a team trailing by 7 runs or more late in the game, and won the game by 7 runs or more.

They needed to fill time on Fox Sports Arizona and have a really goofy ball player do "neat" fun stuff around the valley...and they found the perfect guy!!!:D:

On a side note, I watched BBTN for the first time in a while a couple days ago. They were breaking down the "art" of the post-game shaving cream towel. Is that really what passes for sports entertainment on ESPN these days?

I think I predicted they would go to the World Series this year.

What makes you think a team as bad as the Diamondbacks wants to get worse?

I liked it. Lighten up. It's just baseball!
