Hasn't been revealed as to where, (AAA, AA etc) but it was mentioned previously that this won't be a typical rehab trip. It will be longer than usual with Q progressively exerting more effort on his foot until he is back and up to game speed.

Don't over do it, TCQ, listen to the doctors and take it slow. Coming back healthy and being able to finish the year is the number one concern.

ESPN have breaking news on his rehab stint?

Never mind, Manny Ramirez just farted so they broke news for that.

That's a point worth emphasizing with Carlos. He is a little too intense for his own good sometimes.

I hope he plays it smart. The Sox need him in order to win this thing. I am looking forward to seeing him back in the lineup.

Quentin is off to Charlotte. Will play 3 innings tomorrow, 5 the next day, DH and then day off.

It will be nice to see him back. He might be the trade deadline acquisition the White Sox pull that will put them over the top.

Is it often a recurring injury?

Is it often a recurring injury?

Yes. In fact, Quentin may need offseason surgery even if he returns and makes it through the rest of the season without further interruption.

Yeah. One misstep and HE GONE!

Carlos is 1-2 tonight with an RBI single so far. He grounded out in his first ab and singled up the middle in his second.

Make it 2-3 now with a line drive single to left.

DirtySox

That should do it for tonight if reports that he's only playing 3 innings are true.

Unfortunately Carlos didn't have to do any fielding (he played left but nothing was hit to him) or that much baserunning, I was hoping to see a bit of that so we could see how his foot was doing. I'm sure Carlos could hit if he had two walking boots on his feet, it's his fielding and baserunning that has had me worried.

5 innings tomorrow.

Take this with a grain of salt, but the Herald blog suggests Quentin will return to the Sox this week.

Hmm...the Sox have three games on turf at Minnesota coming up this week. While it would be great to have Carlos in the lineup for those games, I wonder if Quentin's health would be better served by bringing him back on the homestand after the All-Star break.

Agreed. I would be very surprised if he was back and playing in the dome.

Sunday:
2-2, walk

Carlos finished his 5 innings today going 2-2 with 2 singles, a walk and an RBI.

The only fielding to him was on a line drive single.

Tomorrow he will DH for presumably the whole game.

It's good that Carlos is getting results at the plate, but the health is the most important thing. Hopefully, he feels good physically after playing in these games. If he's healthy, I know he's gonna hit.

Reportedly he's still feeling "uncomfortable" when running the bases, but I guess that is to be expected.

From what I've read, he might have some discomfort for the rest of the season. If that's the case, then I guess it just becomes mind over matter. If he doesn't mind, it doesn't matter.

We gotta keep our fingers crossed. I'm not sure the Sox can successfully navigate their way through a tough second-half schedule without Quentin's bat. Frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised the Sox are as close to the top as they are.

Same here.

Besides needing Quentin's bat back in the lineup, I think the Sox must shore up that shaky defense, particularly on the infield to have a legit shot at making some noise in the playoffs this season.

Agreed. The infield defense is the greatest weakness of the team this season, IMO.

I was in KC this weekend, and saw Carlos taking bp on Thursday. He looked great swinging the bat. However, i didn't get to see him run much...

If Thome's gone in 2010, and Dye's option is picked up, does anyone think Quentin should get lots of "rest" at DH between starts in the OF?

Yes. I can see them using a rotation of two or three different players at DH next year, especially if Dye is retained.

Ozzie's been pretty clear that they will not rush him and if all goes as planned the earliest we will see him is after the AS break.

Well what Ozzie says and what actually happens are usually two very different things.

That said, they need to make sure he can manage the pain before bringing him back.

The only was the Sox "shore up" the infield defense is if Alexei gets his head out of his kulo and Getz and Beckham continue progressing. Alexei is capable - but the coaches can not leave him to his own devices. When Q returns. Pods moves to CF - making the OF defense presumably worse. Quentin is a slightly above average defender - but not with a bad foot.

I would be horrified if they brought him back to play in Minnesota on that awful surface.

BP says that Q looked limpy and uncomfortable both running the bases and in the field so far in Charlotte.

Quentin not in the lineup tonight for Charlotte, must be giving him a rest?
