It's great to see the youth infusion paying such great dividends. Nix, Beckham, Richard, and the rest have been playing incredible baseball, and it's such a pleasure to see. GO SOX!

I'm glad we got this one, especially with Greinke going for Kansas City tomorrow. That shapes up as the toughest game of the weekend.

The matchup definitely favored the Sox tonight. Buehrle did his job, and the offense was good enough.

The Sox are now 4-0 in this stretch of 10 games against crap teams. As indicated earlier, I want to see 8-2, 7-3 minimum, against these dregs.

Nice effort and man do the Royals suck or what?!?!

Next time someone whines about the Sox lack of execution, this should be exhibit A on why the Sox aren't that bad. Can you imagine sitting through that whole game as a Royals fan and then being forced to sit through that top of the 9th too? Thought two OF assisted DPs in the first two innings was bad enough, but they managed to frost that cake too.

Whatever. Nice to see Jimbo start to hit again too. Expect some HR to follow shortly.

They showed some of that yesterday too, when they only got 1 run off of 12 hits in the final game against the Twins, and 1 run off of 8 hits on Tuesday.

As good as the Royals were in April, they're awful now, as if reality is setting in...

You're not going to another game until 2010, right?

It's tempting. I've sold off more tickets than usual this year. That's been just as much about personal finances as the Sox poor play in games I've attended. I really miss being at the park every home weekend, though, so I'm still probably going to go to five or six more before the year is out.

Probably the only one with a worse attendance record than me this year is Skobabe.

Beating Lee, then Greinke would be sweet.

We got to him the last time we faced him, back on May 31, although he didn't get the loss, so he's not unbeatable. His ERA has jumped to nearly 2 now, though he's won 2 straight (@Pittsburgh and @Houston).

If Danks can give the kind of performance he did when he beat the Cubs twice, the pressure's going to be on Greinke to be damn near perfect.

Sad to see how bad the Royals have become with all the injuries.

Yuck.

The Royals is the only team in Al Central I have no problem rooting for. They have some of the most pleasant fans I have been around.

Mark was awesome. The gun was a bit quick tonight and I still don't think he ever hit 88 on it. He has a chance to pitch forever with how effective he can be with pretty much no velocity.

The Tribe and Royals are going to get pounded the rest of the year by the Tigers,Twins and Sox...we have to win these games to keep up.
MB was super tonite.
Nix really played well.
Pods is still getting clutch hits vs lefties...awesome.
PK is hitting thru the thumb injury this year by going to right...love it.
Greinke tomorrow nite will require a great outing by Johnny...and he is capable.

Greinke was 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.32 in June, and we pushed his ERA over 1 to stay at the end of May.

He's human. He can be beat.

And Danks threw the ball very well in June to the tune of a 2.91 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.

We can win tomorrow and keep the streak alive.

I am 6W-0L this year in games I've attended. I got you all beat.

Nice to see the Sox finally streaking. It would be nice to keep this thing rolling into our homestand. Hopefully, the Twins and Tigers will beat up on each other a bit and we can gain ground. On another note, we have taken sole control of 2nd place with our win tonight and sit a paltry 2 1/2 games behind the Tigers. Who'd have thunk it a month ago?

I'm beginning to think so myself. I think he plays better defense than Getz and definitely has more pop in his bat. If the team just had to bat either in the 2 slot, I would take Getz, but since whichever you choose will be batting in the bottom third, I prefer Nix. I say this as someone who likes Getz's play.

I love having the debate about which guy going well has to sit..we only have room for 9 in the lineup:D:

Getz is hitting well of late.
Nix is hitting well this week.
Alexei has hit well the last month.
Pods has hit well for 6 weeks.
DWise has hit well the last week.
BA has hit ok the last week.
Gordo has hit very well the last two weeks.
Even Castro had a big knock this week.
Thome had two hits last nite vs a lefty...wooo!

All of our role players are on good streaks...great problem.

I say Ozzie should keep them all platooning based on the righty/lefty matchup cept for Alexei and Gordo, and of course AJ.

Today, Nix and BA sit, with Getz and DWise in...that is my hope.

Ozzie tends to give the injured guy an extra day so that is definitely a possibility...the way Nix is playing he certainly does not hurt us.

The problem with the current platoon arrangement is that a)Anderson hits right handed pitchers better than lefties; and b) the platoon options that Ozzie uses includes playing a .191 hitter with a .537 OPS and a career obp of below .260.
If platooning is in order, I would suggest Nix and Anderson (perhaps moving Pods to CF when Nix plays). This would allow the superior defender to bat against pitchers he hits better, and it would allow right handed hitter, who actually has shown some life, to bat against lefties.

I definitely would like to see Nix get more playing time, but putting him in the outfield is taking away one of his strengths, his defense. If he's playing he should be somewhere in the infield.

BA is hitting .136/.283/.250 against lefties. This really takes away the idea of a platoon, considering his left handed replacements would then have to bat against left handers. If the bottom of the order keeps hitting like they have, Brian is just playing for his defense, which is fine by me,

Anderson did have good at bats last night, stung the ball a couple times, both at somebody. So has Wise lately. It's not a bad problem to have. My feeling is that Anderson's days here are numbered once Q returns.
