What a sweep victory tonight!

I'm sensing a theme: Both Castro and "The Cuban Missile" hit well tonight! Hope Alexei is OK, though.

I don't think I remember being this excited about the Sox since 2006. Not even last year did I get too excited because that team was so flawed.

This run here it's not about the long ball or nothing.
-Stealing bases
-Hitting the other way.
-Beating good pitchers.
-Tremendous pitching
-Young players contributing

Jose wasn't even the best pitcher on the Sox

Gavin Floyd in June - 6 starts, 42.1 IP, 1.28 ERA , 3-0 (he coulda, shoulda been 6-0)

- Consistancy from the back end of the rotation
- A badly needed singles/double hitter from the bottom of the order.

The Sox have been consistently winning series for a while now, but it is nice to finally get a sweep! A word of caution: the last time the Sox swept a series was against the Royals just before the dreadful 12 game homestand.

Hate to lose Alexei when we and he are on a roll. Hope it is a one day deal.
The Tigers play KC and Cleveland next week so we have to stack wins this week to stay even.
Good job by Jose, and Castro, and the rest of the offense.
Gordo,Alexei,Pods,BA,Nix...all the little guys are chipping in ..love them when they are on the basepaths..altho getting 3-4 guys thrown out is a bit sloppy.

When 8 out of 9 starters get hits...

When your backup catcher jacks an opposite field 3-run blast...

When your 40+ something pitcher still less than a year removed from a potentially career ending injury throws 8 more great innings yielding only 5 hits and one walk...

When your rookie stud 3B has his 4th multi-hit game in the last 5...

You kind of expect to win.

Beckham has "it" whatever "it" is, he's go "it". The kid's just flat out a baseball player.

2 games over, 3 games out... hmmmm...

It's that bad? :o:

...yes. Ever since Ozzie calling him out, he's played better defensively. I still like him as a SS, and think that he's got really good potential there in the few years. He just needs to stop being such a bonehead on some plays...which he may be doing!

I'm also prepared to accept that the man is a slow starter, which is fine by me. As long as he turns it on in the second half of the season when it truly counts, that's what I need. Er, as long as he's not hitting below .200 by the All-Star Break, anyway. That's just not acceptable.

Funny, about two days ago a number of people on this board wanted nothing to do with him.

If it is broken I would suspect its a fractured tip like what happened with Getz earlier. He seemed to have hurt it in mid-inning warmups yesterday, likely taking a ground ball off it while covering his glove (similar to what Getz did). He was definitely shaking it yesterday and stayed in. Its also likely that he aggravated it sliding into second. I doubt he'll miss much time. Its unfortunate the way he is playing, but I'm getting Nix in the lineup right now isn't the worst thing.

Nix is hitting the ball hard lately too and is rock solid on defense. You hate to lose Alexei for any period of time but at least we have a capable backup who has been productive lately. Nix could also use the extra ABs to stay sharp.

I did have one VERY minor critique with the ballgame today and that was Ozzie going to Thornton with a 4 run lead in the 9th. I realize the inning was going to start off with the lefty Choo, but couldn't we have used Poreda? I'm just a tad worried that we might be riding Thornton a bit too hard of late. He has struggled a bit more with his command in his last few outings and it seems like he only gets a maximium of 1 day off before he is out there again. Am I over analyzing here?

kittle42

I see your point with using Thornton with a big lead, but you do have to nail down wins...as we saw with the infamous cubs game where we were up 4 with 6 outs to go..and blew it.

It is a fine line with these relievers...they all have had two days off now cept for Thornton and they probably now need to work the next two days, but with MB going tonite, we may not need more than one more guy...like Dotel or Liney. Too much or not enough...always a bullpen debate.
They play the next 7 days so I am grateful for the rest for the bullpen right now.

When I was in Philly a few weeks back, the home team went 3-9 on a 12 game home stand.Things got so
