These threads seemed like a good idea from the start and I was right.

Hope the Sox can be division leaders by the end of July, it's possible.

We'd be tied with Detroit for first right now if we hadn't lost those two tight games at home to the Kitties in June.

I see no reason why this team can't reclaim the division lead by the All-Star Break. Just keep this elevated level of play going, and get a hiccup from Detroit.

We'll need to catch them in July, based on how August looks.

That said, we play 15 road games in the division this month! And only three at home (plus nine home dates with the AL East).

Actually, we would still be two games back if we won those games.
We would be 3 games over .500 and they would only be 5 games over.500..but it would be better than 4 games back.
Detroit has 4 vs minny this weekend...time to make hay,Sox!

Not true. We'd both be 41-36. Remember, it would be +2 for us and -2 for them.

Lets be honest, Sox fans. Who would you rather win? The Tigers or the dreaded dome Twins?

I'm strictly practical when it comes to situations like this. Though it is no contest that I loathe the Twikees far more than the Tigers, having the Humpdomers win the series benefits the Sox. Case closed.

Well... it's not as cut and dry as that. If you assume that the Sox stay in the division hunt, you want the team to lose that you think will be their toughest competition down the line.

So it might make sense to cheer for the Tigers if you think the Twins will go on a tear later in the season and you think the Tigers are playing over their heads right now.

That all said, I think all 3 teams will stick around, so I want either a split or else 3 of 4 for the Twins. Don't want either team to get on TOO much of a roll.

As long as the Sox win all their games they will be in good shape.

Actually, I guess it is only a 3 game series for the tigers vs twins.

And yes, I will root for the hated Twinkies because
1. Tigers are in first.
2. Twins are at home.

Now, if the Sox can catch both teams ,then it will strictly be a rooting for the home team in this type of series featuring rivals.

We need the tigers to slump the next couple of weeks..and the twins...so at all star break..it is a dead heat..

I do think it could be an epic three way battle to the end this year.

As of the moment, the Tigers are in first. Everything else is just speculation. Therefore, the first place team must go down!

Mauer only needs a few more ABs until he can be the average leader on sites like espn.com.

I dont know what the formula is but at .392, Mauer isnt listed as first in avg. He has 206 ABs. Zobrist only has 212 ABs and is listed as #22 in avg.

While lifting weights today, someone who I never talk to and a Twins fan when they are doing good, comes up to me and says "Hey how are the White Sox doing?" In a sarcastic manner, and then I said "tied with the Twins for second" and he says "Oh, really 2 games above .500?" Acting like I didn't know the Twins were 2 games above .500 and him thinking the Sox were 3 games down. Ugh, **** the Twins, thank god for game 163.

Bad loss by the Sox but still only 2.5 back of the Tigers.
This is going to be a long roller coaster of a second half.
Three teams fighting to the end. I like Sox pitching.

Twins WIN. I think we are finally ready to take off, w/ our starting pitchers like Baker and Liriano settling down and finally fixing our relief pitching w/ call ups of Keppinger and Duensing. We ready to take the flag from Detroit.

We're going to learn a lot this weekend.

This team is going to get stronger all through the year, IMO. Guys like Getz, Beckham and TCM are all going to have better second halves than they did in the first half. Add in the possible return of TCQ and any acquisitions KW makes and I don't think this coming weekend is going to be that important. Yeah, always good to win on the road, especially in that nightmare of a ballpark, but this team is only starting to put it together. I'll be shocked if they don't win a bunch more than they lose after the ASG even with that tough as nails schedule in July and August.

Yeah, always good to win on the road, especially in that nightmare of a ballpark,
We have 9 games left in that nightmare. We can't throw them a 4 spot this year and win this division.
I don't disagree with you and the points you made - but there are certain things that suggest that the Twins will be a lot better in the 2nd half too - for one thing, schedule.
One schedule advantage we have is no games against Texas - but we have to go to Seattle twice, and that's not easy on this team. I've personally witnessed enough meltdowns in Safeco and the Kingdome to last a lifetime.

Beckham I will give you.

Getz does nothing for me because of his loopy swing. For that swing, I rather have Nix take his 4 hacks per night and call it a day. Unless Walker and Guillen can get into this kid's head, something they should have done 8 weeks ago.

TCM will continue to hit IMO, but he will continue to break our heart with the head and the glove.

Quentin, is the biggest wild card we have had in a long time. Same way he can come back and do wonderful things this second half and be the 3 hole hitter he was last season, he can also get re-injured and go on the shelf for good. I very scared about his situation.

I would much rather Kenny make a trade for another arm than another bat. But CQ is that Wild Card which my decide where we go.

That said, I think we can play above .500 this second half.

I agree that this team will only get better. Add Contreras to your list above. The Sox won 42 games the first half of this season. Just a 6 game improvement in the second half puts them at 90 wins. I'll take my chances on the division with that.

Verlander threw more than 120 pitches in his recent win against the White Sox and nearly 120 in his loss to the Astros two starts ago. A bunch of Royals runs would be something to get excited about if you're a White Sox fan. A high pitch count is not.
