Got released by the Mets today.
The guy has always had power, and has always been a KW man-crush.
I think we should sign him to a minor league contract and try to catch lightning in a bottle.

How about Wily NO Pena?
Sorry someone had to say it. I'd actually be fine with him at Charlotte.

He'd be perfect playing alongside Michael Restovich.

Never hurts to sign anyone to a minor league contract. The guy was always able to hit for power, however was never able to keep a decent average. I really don't think he woud fit into anything we would need or want in the outfield that we haven't had for the past 10 years. I would like to develop well rounded players that can hit for some power run the bases well (go from first to third on a single, no station to station anymore) steal some bases and play above average defense.

I see no harm in signing him to a MLC. If he would take ABs away from good prospects, then no. But...well...the only guys he'd be blocking would be guys like Restovich. So why the heck not.

He's got to be better than Dewayne Wise.

It's too bad we didn't trade Mark Buehrle to get him in 2007.

I mean, I have heard a few trade rumors involving him and the Sox (most notably with Buehrle in 07), but they always seemed to be the other GM saying "Hey, give me a good player and I will give you a load of crap."

LOL: the deals you DON'T make ... hopefully, we're laughing about Peavy in 2011 or sooner.

You are right, there were rumors about us getting him when he was with Boston.
