According to WGN's weather map, there is a lot of rain in the midwest and most of it seems to be moving north east. It looks like a pretty good system is moving in soon. I'm no expert but it looks like it might rain pretty good around 5PM or so. The forecast calls for 70% chance of rain. We might have a delay.

Someone should have provided this forecast to the idiots who were standing in line for bleacher entry at 11:30 a.m. today. Actually, if the forecast was for clear skies and 80 degrees, they'd still be idiots.

Looks like a delay, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't start soon thereafter. They ought to be able to play in this stuff.

This one gives a better view of what's trailing this system - not much. The present weather will have blown through in the next 90 minutes would be my guess. Unless the lake strengthens the back end or the arm on the upper left folds down and swings through this will all be long gone by game time.

Definetly, I watched the entire mass move about 20 miles in 1 hour, maybe a little more, but that is still very very slow. I hope they get the game in but this isin't one of those fast moving, WAM, BAM, THANK YOU MAMM summer storms that produce violent intense cells that last for 30 minutes and then die off. This thing appears to be one of those systems that forms near converging high and low pressure areas that just keeps churrning out rain. Maybe a few breaks here and there but it just keeps coming until the low pressure moves completely out of the area.

If PPD will they do a double header tomorrow or Thursday?

Two games at Wrigley tommorrow or Thursday would no doubt be a headache. You know what they might do: a day night doubleheader on one of the days next weekend with one game at Wrigley and one game at U.S. Cellular. I believe that the Mets and Yanks did that a few years ago.

There is no reason to play the make-up game this week. It's early enough in the season that there would have to be a date when both teams are available to make up the game. They could even wait to see if the game is necessary to the standings before they make it up. But that won't happen.

Yeah, I heard that, too. Brutal recording on the Score's part.

I live on the north side and advised my friend going to the game with me to stay in Naperville. The way the rain was coming down and, more importantly, the weather radar said the game was not going to start anytime soon.

Yet Mully and Hanley and then Rongey were talking like the game was going to start relatively soon. I guess that's what you get when you have three guys reporting from a bar. I needed to monitor the situation closely to see if my friend should venture into the city. WGN was MUCH more on top of the situation.

I think they'd try to go for the later (probably on the Saturday), because the city wouldn't have to worry *as much* about nighttime crazies surrounding Comiskey. They'd probably schedule a game at Noon at Wrigley and 7:11 here.

It would be cool if they could quickly get a sponsor for a firework show that night.

In that case, there would be more off days to fill. We can't have three doubleheaders during the series at Comiskey. That would cost the Cubs the home-field advantage. It would be very interesting to see how such a situation would pan out. I doubt they'll let it happen.

There's a possibility this whole series will get washed out. Thunderstorms are in the forecast each day through Friday.

If that happened, I'm sure they'd do what they've done in New York a few times and play in both ballparks in oneeach day. The city might not like night games, but if they had no other choice, they'd deal (and, of course, TONIGHT was a night game, so it's not as if the city has some sort of total ban on night Cubs/Sox games.

When did that happen? I don't remember that at all.
It's too old of an article to read the entire article without paying to read the archives, but this gives you at least a good picture of what happened:

It happened during the 2000 season after a Sox/Cubs game that went into extra innings (I think it was the Ray Durham game).

He lamented about it for the next WEEK on his afternoon show!

I would rather see them wipe all three games off the schedule. And if the Cubs needed to beat the White Sox three times after the season was over to make the NLDS, I would hope this would get Sr. Guillen motivated to get his team up for a spoiling effort.

I know this is all fantasy, of course.

There are TV issues too. September 3rd makes a lot of sense.

That's at the end of a really bad road trip (4 @ Boston, 3 @ New York, 3 @ Minnesota) and have them playing every day for 20 straight.

A day game on the 10th would make more sense (Cubs are coming home after a brief road trip to New York and Pittsburgh [day game on Wednesday the 9th] while we finish up a 2-game set with Oakland before heading to LA for 3, with an off-day on the 14th).

Is is raining in Chicago? It's stopped long ago here. Did the Cubs call it too early?

In September Aramis Ramirez should be back in their line-up...

Actually suprsied they did not wait. The rain was done on the north side at 9:30. First pitch at 10:05. I guess that is too late though.

If they scheduled it Sep. 10, the Cubs would have 24 straight games. They try to stay away from that. Unless they do the day/night thing next week, I think Sep. 3 is probable. It also gives them a second chance on Sep. 10 if they got rained out on the 3rd. Just the way it goes.

Missed that on the Cubs schedule. Screw 'em, it's the Cubs.

I remember that season well, just didn't remember that incident at all. Must've been on vacation or something.

Do you remember "The Huge Show" with Bill Simonson that used to air on ESPN Radio 1000? Well, he enticed a huge fight near Jimbo's and was beaten up by a bunch of kids near Armour Park. Since then, the city has fought hard to keep Sox/Cubs games to the daytime hours.
This is actually only part of the reason. Mayor Daley was asked the question about Sox vs Cubs night games a few years back in the Sun Times and he said the major reason they ask both teams to avoid it is because it costs the city a lot of money to schedule the extra police needed for the overflow (and over served) bi-partisan crowds at both ballparks. Apparently, during daytime hours, the city has more than enough police to cover the ballgames but when it is at night, they have to pay overtime to get extra police to patrol the ballparks. The bottom line is it costs the city more money to have the games at night which is why they only do it once in a while.

Still surprised we have heard no news on a potential game time though.

I still think he beat himself up for the PR. That guy was a bigger tool than North.

The City of Chicago has fought hard for the games to be day games ever since the Bill Simonson incident.
And yet the first time it's played on a weekday, the Cubs play the game at night. Doesn't sound like the rule's really a rule especially when the team for which day games are the norm plays at night.
Yet at the Cell, we go by Cub-rules and play the game in the day.
