Wow. Never saw that coming

Well that should make things interesting
We'll see how he does. I don't remember him being the most effective of speakers. Don't get me wrong, he speaks fine. But usually commentators and analysts have a certain presence.

Sweet! Has Melton been fired?

Edit: Nevermind, it's only for the crosstown games.

Ditto.

Maybe the HOF lobbying will begin in earnest now.

With Black Jack blogging, Ventura making appearances in the Sox dugout, all that was needed was for the Big Hurt to attach himself to this team in some minor way.

Nice! It'll be great to see the Big Hurt once again.

As I read it, it's just a five-game gig during the Sox-Cubs telecasts. But since Frank's agent apparently initiated the discussion with Comcast, I assume he's interested in more regular work.

Can Frank teach our hitters to go the othe way?

Now that would be a wise investment...

I've seen him do it before, I believe it was during the '07 playoffs. I think he did a good job.

I thought he did some work for Fox. I thought he was very well spoken.

Can Frank be our hitting coach when he's done on TV?

Why don't they take the cue of some other teams and do the postgame show from the OF concourse?

You mean that Greg Walker teaches them to hit just like he used to?
For a nice period, Frank was the best hitter in all of baseball and I for one would welcome his knowledge.

Good way to phase in the reapproachment of the Hurt back into the Sox fold. Hope it leads to more TV work this year, the one day signing of Frank for a Frank Thomas Day, and his ultimate retirement in a Sox uni. Then of course in due time, the statue and the outfield mural...and finally retirement of #35...and the Sox cap on his head when he enters the HOF in 5 years.
He could step in for Melton when belting bill is ready to hang it up.

Means that the feud is over. It is all love now.

Good to see him call it quits before his AVG dropped below .300(if he is, for all intents and purposes retired). Should make the HOF decision a little easier for some of the knuckle-heads who don't deserve a vote.

I absolutely think he woulda played if someone woulda offered him a contract this year. He loves the game.

Yeah, he was with TBS during the 2007 postseason. I thought he was pretty solid on there.

How about Frank as an analyst on CSN or MLB network? I think he'd make a great commentator. This was my post on February 20th. I guess Frank took my advice. :redneck

It will be great having Frank back with the Sox even if it's as an analyst. Maybe he'll use this opportunity to take some diggs at KW. I can't wait.

I'm glad Frank is getting the chance to do this. I hope it signals a truce between KW and Hurt. Probably not, but I am glad that Frank is getting some recognition from the team. He deserves it.

Good for Him!

I have listened to him on several local radio shows and he sounds personable and bright. I wish him well!

Maybe he'll explain that fight between him and Dick Allen. Or talk about his years with the Cubs.

For a nice period, Frank was the best hitter in all of baseball and I for one would welcome his knowledge.

Hitters that have the discipline to use Hriniak's method are few and far between, Frank embraced it and Robin tried, and the rest got Walt fired.

I don't think KW has anything to do with him getting hired on the broadcast end of things. I know the Sox definitely have a say, but isn't that someone else's department?

Are you referring to Mark Grace? If Grace is on the D-Backs TV broadcast, imagine that Cubbie Clown when he's done Sox national games on Fox.

Yes. It's not just Grace, he's not even that bad, it's the collection of everyone doing that broadcast. Most unprofessional I've seen in any sport. It's like listening to a bunch of drunk yahoos calling each other 'broseph' for three hours. They're having fun, I'll give them that.

A great interview. He is also going to be doing work for CSN on-air during the Crosstown...and, answering fan questions online. Nice to see Big Frank back on the South Side!

Looks like his playing career might be officially over. Unless he can get a one day contract with the Sox.
