My dad just told me on the Score they are reporting we signed him to a minor league deal. Is this true? When are Everett, Harris, Blum, Widger, El Duque and everyone else coming back?

I guess that's why Kenny stormed out of the locker room.

The news was so exciting to him.

Jeez, he signed a minor league deal, I remember a bunch of people thinking KW was insane for signing Pods to that minor league deal, too. It's not like he's starting tomorrow.

I'm guessing all of you writing him off today have been at a recent scouting session of Garcia, right?

The Knights need some pitching, people, this move hardly affects us.

The Tigers didn't think enough of his work late last season to offer him a deal. The Mets have had all kinds of pitching problems, and they still cut him. For those reasons, I have a hard time believing he will ever help a MLB team again.

Does signing him hurt anything? No, but I doubt anything will come from it.

Can he and Bartolo take one roster spot? Then we can get 6 or 7 innings on their turn.

I've wondered this too. The term gets especially funny if it last past 2 more weeks, because then it'll be summer.

Is it just like a training center where people rehab and workout?

Bartolo has been fine this year, he's making a million bucks and he's the fifth guy in the rotation. I don't know how much more anyone could have realistically expected from him.

Neither do I, so who gives a ****?

Charlotte needs another pitcher. The only reason people are clamoring is because they recognize the name.

People just love to pick on Bartolo. He hasn't been doing any worse than Gavin or Danks lately.

Situational hitting has been the real issue. If Kenny's gonna bring back former players, he may as well ask Big Frank to come back.

Seriously, if everyone on this team could have lived up to moderately reasonable expectations like Bartolo has, the Sox would be comfortably in first place in the division.

He is playing out in good ol' Newark, New Jersey. It appears he likes to play the game of baseball with the likes of Mackowiak, Foulke, Bukvich, Armando Benitez, and Jay Gibbons to name a few.

I don't think Frater is caring about how Charlotte does, but instead hoping that guys we have in the minors who are younger are able to get their fair share of experience pitching on the level right below the majors.

I really don't care how Charlotte does. But if they need a pitcher, they can either prematurely promote someone from AA, or sign a washed up veteran. At least by signing the washed up veteran (Garcia), there is a 5% chance he might find lightning in a bottle and be able to contribute to the Sox later this year. I'd rather take the low-risk chance with Garcia than prematurely promote a pitcher (especially into a tiny HR-friendly park like Charlotte) and risk hurting his development.

A lot of professional athletes don't know about money management. But that's really besides the point.

Whether or not Freddy is low on cash (it's entirely possible that he messed up financially somewhere down the line), he is unemployed, and was a part of the 2005 puzzle. He's friends with Ozzie and I'd suspect that he's friends with other members of the White Sox organization.

If Freddy didn't need the money, or he wanted to retire, he wouldn't be seeking employment. For a former ace pitcher with a world series ring to settle for a position in extended spring training certainly says something about how much he wanted/needed the White Sox to sign him.

People didn't raise their eye brows like this when the exact same thing was done for Scott Podsednik. Podsednik wasn't signed to a minor league deal so that he could rise through the ranks and become our lead off man. He was signed because he needed employment.

Some game early in the season. Not sure what your point is here. What does this have to do with Garcia? He's not on the Sox roster. And the current starting lineup has young guys at third, short, second, and center, not to mention three young pitchers in the starting rotation. So, Hawk is correct.
