If the Yankees hold on to beat Cleveland, that would make the Sox the only winner in the AL Central. That would make this win even sweeter. Richard had great stuff and he got good defense and offense to boot. That was an all around great game. :bandance:

I love Friday night victories. Makes Saturday morning with coffee and the paper a most pleasant experience.

Royals, Twins and Pirates are not the '27 Yankees. But Clayton Richard is fast becoming a favorite.

Makes me wonder if the only thing Richard is below average at is throwing to first base.

That was kind of entertaining.

After tonight's win, we're still 10-15 on the road. Unless you mean winning road trip, which, yes, 4 wins would guarantee that.

I love all the hype the Royals get any time they manage to start decently and how they always manage to fade in short order. And I love quickly the baseball stupid like Dan Bernstein bury us anytime we hit adversity early.

Tomorrow, we overtake these guys and never look back.

Nice...

Heck of a birthday present. Heck of a team effort, but in particular it's nice to see the guys who have been slumping start to get back on track. Fields, Getz and Ramirez in particular, but even BA breaking out of a mini-slump to grab a couple of doubles and then there's this kid named Clayton who long term answer or not doesn't seem intimidated in the least and is giving this team a huge boost as we enter the summer months.

Double digit runs in two of the four games on this road trip so far. And the pitching has been very good. Richard looks like he is in command, and has nailed down a spot in the rotation.

The thing I liked best was the Sox scoring 11 runs, but hitting only one homerun, and a solo shot at that. Watching them go first to third continuously in the 6th was a thing of beauty.

Man, 0.500 never seemed so far away.

With that being said, I want +2 and a sweep of Detroit for some swagga

Great point and hopefully it's a start of a good trend. I can't remember the last time I actually saw that in an inning (even with a hit and run call). If BA, Getz and Fields start hitting consistently like today, I'll feel a lot less crappy about this season.

Last year, Richard was getting stuck after 4 innings. In his first start this year he went 4...then 7 then 6 then 7 (and it easily could have been 8). He's clearly an improving pitcher. And even last year, he threw a lot of good innings, in the heat of a race, and didn't lose his poise.

I know he doesn't have the heat and this organization loves pitchers who throw hard.

But improving young pitchers are exactly what we need. The Sox need MORE young pitching; not less. And right now, we have pretty much ZERO depth in young pitching....Richard, Poreda and some A ball pitchers.

Cute!

It's nice to see the bats come alive on this road trip. If they can win another game, then I'd say it was a pretty successful one. June could be a very helpful month for them if they play things out right.

I think Richard's fastball velocity is not in question. Richard is touching 94/95 in his last two starts and his slider was good tonight. If he keeps this up I don't think we'll see Contreras again this year.

Since the beginning of the Spring I was arguing that he should be in the rotation and a good comp for Richard is John Danks in his rookie year. Meaning that Richard could put up an ERA around 5, gain some experience. And if he improved his secondary pitches could be good middle of the rotation starter 2010 going forward. I was promptly called a idiot by munchman by my comments.

I still think he needs to add a cutter and improve his change which he doesn't seem to have a good feel for yet. The change has the appropriate velocity (~83mph) but doesn't have any fade and with his arm slot it may be harder than someone who throws over the top.

Fields had the biggest hit tonight, the two-out, two-run double on the hanging curve from Bannister in the second inning. The Sox had full control of this game from that point on.

Richard is pitching the best ball of his career right now.

After JD hit the homer in the first, the sox scored ten runs on zero homers the rest of the game...amazing number of 1st to 3rds tonite...it is a beautiful thing indeed!
Clay Richard is oozing confidence on the mound. His body language is perfect right now...just give me the ball and lets go!
