Yikes. 9 runs in the last 2 innings.

I know there's the AL Central Gamethread, but I'll say a monumental comeback like this deserves a little solo thread love.

They need a closer. It was apparent last year in the postseason and that kind of loss is evidence.

They need a closer. It was apparent last year in the postseason and that kind of loss is evidence.

During the ALDS and ALCS, the bullpen was big in helping carry the Rays to the World Series. This year, it isn't just a closer they lack.

There were people who complained Sunday that the White Sox couldn't be taken seriously as contenders after losing in the ninth to the Pirates, a last-place team. The Rays gave up nine runs in two innings to lose to a last-place team. The game-winning hit was preceded by four two-out walks by two pitchers.

The Rays, not unlike the Indians or even the Pirates (after what they did the the Cubs Monday and how well they hit frontline White Sox pitching Sunday, the back-to-back shutouts look even more impressive), will give teams trouble this year. But they won't contend for the postseason.

I hope the White Sox don't fall in the same category.
