Today the National League scored 95 runs, and the American League scored 90 runs. Is 185 runs in a day the all-time MLB record?

That comes to an average of 6.16 runs per team if all 30 played single games today.
By the way, the Sox are responsible for almost 10% of the MLB total today!

It turns out that the record is 221 runs on July 3 1999 (http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1999/07031999.htm). The Sox made a mighty contribution of 11 runs against the Sawx that day. Philly made the biggest contribution of 21 runs against the Cubs.

2 sets of double headers that day-
Game 1
SD 10
COL 12
Game 2
SD 6
COL 8
AND
GAME 1
KC 8
CLE 9
Game 2
KC 5
CLE 9
If you throw out the lower scoring games of those sets, that's 28 runs. Still higher than yesterday at 193 runs, but closer.
