I'm loving it. Makes my day zoom by! Nothing like a good Sox trade rumor to brighten things up around here.

I mean i love it, but I hate hearing just a bunch of **** thrown out about who is going to be traded and what not. Just people speculating and it makes me nervous and anxious.

And that is why he is part of the deal.

He'd probably become the best lead off option on the Sox. Can't hurt right?

To be honest, I have no idea what that was for. Konerko's resigning and the Thome trade happened weeks after that figure was set.

ESPN has been on at work and they came into breaking coverage when both sides agreed on terms and they were just waiting on Peavy to give the final approval. They then had Gammons on and he specifically stated that Beckham was NOT part of the deal and that Linebrink called Peavy last night to talk him into approving the deal. I am shocked that ESPN has been really good about reporting this.

What about the report that Peavy was leery of playing for Ozzie? I can kind of understand it -- Ozzie is very unpredictable and can be hard to read, and from the outside he probably looks like a jerk. But I think once you get in there, you would find that he's no worse than most managers.

All this talk about the deal being out in the open. Why is it a negative if the deal has already been agreed upon by both teams? Maybe the Sox are just trying to keep it out in the open to generate excitement that hopefully Peavy will notice. I also understand that it sheds a positive light on the Sox even if the deal does not go through. But this isn't a BS rumor, the trade has already been agreed upon.

Now they're talking w/the AA manager of the Padres who is coming to SD for a celebration at the ballpark and when they asked him about it he said he's had his jersey taken down before and that's just baseball...it's a business...

just saw that MLB.com reporter is saying Poreda & Richard are the "centerpieces" of the deal. :bandance:

My guess is still that Danks/Flowers/Viciedo is in it. But Poreda's considered a Sox "Top prospect" so that could fit what's coming out of SD as well.

Anyone know whether or not the trade restrictions on the first year of a palyer is true for traded/signed guys as well? If so, that would exclude Viciedo & Flowers from the deal. But I don't think that's true, haven't teams traded for prospects and flipped them almost instantly in the past?

Could be one of the lower level guys who have been coming into their own this year like Carter or Infante. I'd be fine with this, as I would be about trading Poreda. I think he has great pure stuff, but until his secondary pitches improve, his ceiling is as a really good bullpen pitcher.

Even if one of the as-yet-to-be-named pitchers wind up being good, this would be an absolute coup if Kenny pulls this off with Richard and Poreda being the main pieces now.

that would be freakin' sweet. Proven studs in Buehrle & Peavy, young guns in Danks & Floyd. You can find a vet #5 (resign Colon?).

And you keep your young position players, which lets you maintain payroll by letting Dye/Thome/Konerko/AJ leave over the next few years. Guarantee the rotation, take some shots with your revamped farm system for the positional guys. That's standard Kenny MO - pitching pitching pitching!

It's not fair because the situations are different. I really think hendry was not allowed to make the deal over the winter due to Peavy's contract and the impending sale of the Cubs. He had to move Derosa and Wood to sign Bradley. Logic says he would have had to move a couple other players to make room for Peavy's salary.

It probably has been said elsewhere on this thread, but Beckham, Jordan Danks, Hudson, etc. can not be included in this trade as none of them have been with their signing club for a year. I suppose they could be listed as players to be named later and sent over in July/August, but I highly doubt the Commissioner's Office would approve that trade.

I read on Yahoo Sports that the deal includes 4 Sox pitching prospects, and if true I think it will be Poreda, Richard (those two sound like givens), and someone like Gregory Infante, Justin Edwards, Wes Whisler or Carlos Torres and then a AAAA Tweener type like Jon Link or Derek Rodriguez.

"I really can't say" in regards to what direction he is on it.

That's positivee. You'd think Linebrink would be pretty careful about being too optimistic with the media. If Peavy's primary concerns are moving the family, etc but he's known to like the Midwest and Chicago, then it seems a lot more like this could work out.:bandance:

Only thing I see that could break this up is if he really wants to stay in the NL. Which I never understood for pitchers unless they were afraid of getting pounded by stronger AL lineups or were up for new deals and wanted to maximize stats. Neither of which should be a real concern for Jake.

He enjoys moonlit walks on the beach (but I've heard he'll settle for the lake). He is a Monopoly expert and his favorite edition is the Star Wars Monopoly. He is 62% business, but he also considers Monopoly to be business, so take that for what it's worth. He's an excellent public speaker, but also a great listener. Rumor has it that, had he not fulfilled his baseball dream, his true calling would have been as a therapist.

He's a lover, not a fighter; but he's also a fighter so don't get any ideas.

Maybe they'll announce it after today's game like when Buehrle signed his current deal.

tools in SD xx1090.com saying he'd be playing for the second class citizens in the baseball world in Chicago.. Jokingly trying to convince him to stay. Then played the soundbite of North arguing with Ozzie a few years ago in reference to the Chicago media.

They can be included as PTBNL, and it happens all the time.

I can't recall when that has happened specifically to allow a player to accrue their 1 year with a team and then send him over to another club. In fact, I think the A's tried it a few years back and were shot down.

When a club makes a trade you have to give the Commissioner's Office a list of the PTBNLs (and all the players, of course), and if they saw Beckham, Danks, etc on the list, I highly doubt they would allow it. If so, why have the rule on the books in the first place?

Also, if you were the Padres, would you want, say, Beckham to be under the Sox control two months after making the trade? What if he gets hurt? What if the Sox decide to move him to catcher until he is sent over? Now obviously the Sox wouldn't do something mean-spirited like that, but you can see the practical problems that would arise.

He is the most interesting man alive. He doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, he drinks Dos Equis.

Second class in Chicago is better than first class in the NL Worst.

This could be a great day. The only thing I fear is Peavy rejecting the trade and then the Cubs coming in and making it happen. That would hurt. Bad.
