In an interview with the Tribune's Mark Gonzalez (http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2009/05/white-soxs-jim-thome-concerned-about-high-strikeout-total.html), Jim Thome admits he prefers facing left-handed pitchers. He also admits that he is a better hitter and gets better results when he hits to the opposite field and up the middle.

Discuss.

Did he mention that he's utterly incapable of not hitting directly into the shift?

When that's the way they pitch you, what are you supposed to do?

Hit their mistakes onto the concourse, not into the screen behind home plate.

I've always maintained that Thome's best when he can use the whole field. We saw a little of that this season.

I would love to see him hit the other way more regularly and avoid the shift, but Jim is what he is.

The fact that he refuses to even try to slap something down the third base line drives me bonkers.

Yeah, but he's a nice guy who makes millions of dollars.

How dare you?

Like ozzie would ever let a lefty hit against a southpaw.

Thome could hit ? Weird. A waste of 13 mil.

How come he is getting a pass when Alexi did not. Alexi has a higher average.

Thome is probably looking at the HOF. The only way he gets in is by increasing his HR total so, bombs away.
