He won't be at the bottom of the lineup if that continues. Pods/Getz would be a nice 1-2. Fields can then be moved down to 8th or 9th.

Buehrle is 4-0 already. Get ready for the All-Star Game in St. Louis.

And the Sox are 5-0 in his starts.

I've made this point about Thome before, but it's worth repeating: I don't care if he hits .240. I don't care if he strikes out a lot. We need game-changing extra-base hits from Jim.

Thome delivered a game-changing extra-base hit tonight.

All of the Sox runs were scored with two out.

Bullpen -really solid top 4. As good as any.

Root for Podsednik. He's the best we have right now. We can't upgrade because we don't have any pitching to trade and teams want pitching. (don't have anything else to trade either)

This type of comeback win gives you the warm fuzzies...:D:

Wed- Sox win!
Thurs- Bulls win!
Fri-Sox win!
Sat- Bulls win? I like this pattern.

Getz really smoked that ball, surprising power. Love to watch him run.
Big Jim really dropped the head on that pitch..glad they took out feldman.
Burls settled in when I thought it was gonna be a long nite,as the great ones do...and he earned this win.
Pod's stroke looked very 2005ish on that last at bat...nice.
Really like having two guys that can really run back to back..our own piranhas? Love the way Pods freaked that lefty out and suckered him into a balk...I was surprised that pitcher felt threatened.

Melton just said that Pods will never feel comfortable at the plate cus he is in the last leg of his career...LOL. Little harsh there ,Bill.

Pods - two hits and a run scored (is the 2005 magic back???)

Getz - multi-hit game, impressive triple, RBI

MB - another solid outing

Thome - clutch, bases clearing double (almost a grand slam)

Bullpen - excellent job

This was a neat 4-3 win, the type of game that needs to be won on a consistent basis. The White Sox have come back to win during their last two games, which is a very good sign.

I think #1 actually looks good on Pods.

From what I see now the Sox are pretty solid, if Contreras can get back to where he was in the first half of last season it will be extremely difficult for any team to beat us.

Please forgive my ignorance (I can't find anything about it in these forums, though I'm sure it was discussed at the time), but what prompted Fields to change to #22 in the first place? He used to be #27 for the Sox, he was #13 as QB for OK State, and I believe he wore #11 with Charlotte (is it as simple as "11's retired for Aparicio, so I'll just double it"?). Ben Broussard wore #27 in the spring, but I can't imagine the Sox would have taken it away from a player who's been in their system for years and given it to a guy on a minor league deal. So what's the story with Fields and #22? :?:

I'm pretty sure #27 was just what was assigned to him when he joined the team in 2007...you don't get to pick your number as a rook. He changed it to 22 last year.

Do we know why, though? Like when Kobe Bryant changed from #8 to #24 because that was the number he wore in high school (even though everyone knows the real reason is because it's one more than MJ's #23). It doesn't appear as though Fields has worn #22 in the past, and if he's this willing to give it back to Pods, he can't have much of a sentimental attachment to it. What did he have against #27, anyway? Not a big deal - I'm just curious.

I don't normally comment after wins due to superstition, so we're probably going to lose tomorrow, but I'd love to see Pods come back to Chicago hitting .350 with like, 5 SBs. If he's healthy he can be real productive. If he can stay healthy all year he'll be great filling in for Brian and be a great 4th OF.

Yeah, it's pretty much why I don't post in them much if at all. It's all Cy this and Cy that and corpseball as if being shutout for the first 2 or 3 innings of a game is grounds to seek out some rat poison and ingest it...

Gee, no hyperbole there...

The Sox did not hit a ball hard until Thome's 3 RBI double. Before that, they were playing corpseball against a guy with a 7+ ERA entering the game. Let's not confuse him with Roy Halladay. So pardon us if we weren't all sunshine, butterflies, rainbows and puppies during the first few innings.

The game threads have the kind of conversation that many of us would be having if we were sitting with friends watching the game (either in person or on TV). There's negativity when the Sox play badly or are losing, and positivity when the Sox are winning and playing well. But we all have a measure of faith/hope that the Sox can pull out a win, otherwise we wouldn't follow the game!

To be fair, the guy was hitting his spots perfectly until the 6th inning. Ron Washington deserves a little bit of credit for this win.

I'd be careful speaking in absolutes there.

It's good to see us coming from behind to steal some wins...those are the kinds of wins you need to get to the play offs. Thome completely surprised me (had a bet with the wife that he would strike out or ground out to 2nd), Pods' looked very quick on the bases...and the comments about his positive impact on the clubhouse tell me that Wise could be the odd man out if Pods does very well. The Pods/Getz tandem looks interesting.

AJ should have slid going back into 3rd...I don't know why he went back standing up.

With Nix out of options, when BA comes back, who goes?

It depends on how everyone has been playing at the time of course, but I'm going to say Lillibridge. He could use more time in the minors anyway.

The interesting thing will be what happens when Wise is cleared by the medical staff to come back. If it were up to me, I'd release him and go with Anderson, Pods and Nix. I don't know what Ozzie will have to say about that however.

I disagree. I find the game threads sad and disheartening for the most part. I must have different friends who don't hang on every of the 250 pitches of each of the 162 games of each season.

I can understand being upset when the other team scores, but this game is about patience and I see none of it exhibited in those posts. That's just me though. If you enjoy it, so be it...

I understand why you feel the way you do; you're one of the most optimistic posters on WSI.

My posts in the game thread mimic the "gallows humor" banter with my friends (minus the expletives) if we were watching a Sox game together. It's too bad gallows humor doesn't translate well in text-only format.

I guess we do have different friends, but I still consider you a friend here on WSI.

I don't think he did. I told Fields about his number change at Sox Fest in 2008 and his response was "really?" So I don't know if he actually requested it or if he was surprised it happened so fast.

Most of the crap I post in the game thread is gallows humor as well. All of my "Cy Feldman" garbage was basically designed to try to jinx the guy. The Sox hitters need all the help they can get while facing no-name pitchers. :D:

I find the game threads more humorous than anything. After Sox victories, I like to go back and read them to find out how wrong posters (including myself) were about things that happened in the game.

**** that...

There, that gallowy enough for you?

Edit: And yes, my friends and I come at it from a very different space. You say something negative about the team we are rooting for, you get a good hard smack in the shoulder and an evil glare. We take it the opposite, where nothing can be too optimistic. Got a 10 point/run lead? Let's make it 20...

Me, my husband, brother and sister in law made the trip down to Texas to watch the game, and what a GREAT win it was!! There's nothing like being a Sox fan in the middle of Ranger's ballpark and yelling LOSERS!!! Hehehe...seriously though, that game was just awesome! I really wish I lived closer to a team we played more often. But I guess I'll should just be happy I can see them at all.

We had great seats....directly behind homeplate 7 rows up. Just out of the camera view. Anyway, there was this huge drunk jackass setting behind us that was yelling at Thome with he came up with bases loaded. He was screaming "EH, look at you in your short pants! You can't hit ****! You look like a bitch in your short pants!" Of course, me and my husband were just chuckling knowing that the idiot obviously didn't have a clue who Jimmy was or he would've been scared to death with him at the plate. So when Jimmy crushes that monster double (that I really thought was going to be a grandslam by the way it sounded off the bat) I jumped up and down and started yelling "Who's the bitch now!!??":redneck

Hope the game doesn't get rained out tonight. Everyone I know is a Rangers fan, so I'd REALLY like to see us get another win.

I was sitting about 4 rows behind home plate behind the guy with the home Buehrle jersey. When I left a girl gave me a high five and said go White Sox. Was that you?

I'm negative at the worst of times and overly positive at the worst of times.

0-1 ~ There going to lose the series!
0-10 ~ I'm betting a sig for a 9th inning comeback!

...

Good win, I look at Getz performance more positively that Pods. But that's just me.

OMG! I remember seeing the guy with the Buehrle jersey! I don't think it was me, because at the very end of the game I had exchanged seats with my brother so he could watch the last 2 innings close up. Their seats were higher up in section 19. But I did get about 7 hugs from guys I didn't know that were in Sox gear after the win:D: I got my tickets on Stubhub and I think I overpaid. The couple sitting next to us said they bought theirs on stubhub too and only paid $25 each:o: I forked over $120 + fees for each of ours. They did say they bought theirs only about 2 weeks ago, and I bought ours just as soon as the finalized schedule came out so I could be sure to get them. Where did you buy yours from?? 4 rows up are kickin' seats!

I find the game threads more humorous than anything.

I wish I could remember which game it was last year...it was down the stretch in September, maybe a Thursday night game vs. KC or Minnesota. There were only about 15 or 20 people in the game thread, including some old timers, but it was the best example of what a good game thread can be. Everyone was outdoing each other with one-liners. After it was over, everyone sort of admitted it happened randomly but was one of the best game threads ever.
