I'd look this up myself but I'm not exactly sure how.

How many AB's does a player need to be included in the "league leaders"?

Say a guy comes up in mid-july and goes 5-10 in his first few games. Technically he's leading the league with a .500 batting average but they don't recognize it until he gets so many ABs.

What is the exact number?

You are correct which comes out to 502 appearances.
When we played 154 games it was 477 PAs.
