So what happened with the research they were doing on maple bats? Is that still ongoing? Is it going to take someone getting seriously injured, or possibly killed (maybe even a fan), before they do something about the problem? That's not a cloud over the game that MLB needs.

It was an ash bat that struck Danley.

Bats don't be seem to be exploding as much as years past. Hockey sticks on the other hand....................................

Lets have them start using metal bats. This will stop all bats from breaking. And instead of hearing the crack of the bat you'll hear, PING, PING PING!

He has, unfortunately, had some bad luck behind the plate. Glad to hear he's alright.

That was a vicious blow from that broken bat but its good to know that he will be okay.

Got hit twice from the looks of the film. Fat end of the bat catches him right about forehead level and then it whirls around and the thin part strikes him on the side of the head. Brutal.

I'd bet we'll see more umps wearing these types of helmets in years to come. Might even make it mandatory.
