5 years, 45 mil. Seems a bit much to me for a guy who puts up an .800 OPS each year.

His hitting stats aren't that great, but their lineup is really weak. He's also the face of their franchise, so a deal was inevitable.

As someone willing to admit publically that I root for the Nats, I agree that Zimmerman is the face of the franchise. Obviously, I wish they were better, but sometimes, I just don't know.

Anyway, good move with Zimmerman. Now get some other talent on the roster please.

I'm all for giving money to star players who earn it.

.280/.340/.460 just aren't the kind of numbers I would feel rushed to lock in at that price.

They probably didn't have much choice. DC is so indifferent right now to the awful Nats, management is probably compelled to do go overboard somewhere. That team is such a disaster.

This was a PR signing as much as anything else. Very few Nats fan will complain about this one. Now if they sign Manny Acta to an extension, the fanbase will go ballistic.

The fanbase I think, might not even notice. Drop-dead gorgeous spring weather here in DC over the weekend and the Nats drew 19,000 and 16,000 for Sat and Sun games.
