View Full Version : ISO: Vintage mid-80s red batting practice jersey

I may have imagined this existed as a child, but I SWEAR I had one at some point. It was a mesh batting practice jersey, no buttons, it was red and had the 80s batter-posing logo on the left chest area. It also had blue and white stripes down the side of the sleeve. I'll occasionally search on google/check ebay, but have never been able to find so much as a photo of one, let alone one for sale. Anyone remember these??? I would LOVE to get my hands on one...

The Sox wore what you are talking about for the 1982 season. A Fleer card of Harold Baines in either 82 or 83 shows this.

the first has the logo, the second has the stripes on sleeve. I remember getting that one for my 11th birthday in 1984 on a surprise trip to game with mom & dad. Oh for those good old carefree days....

Grandstand has a similar version of this jersey made by Nike. It's a pretty heavy cotton red jersey with the batter man logo sewn on the front, with the name and numbering sewn on the back. No stripes, and obviously it's not mesh.
I saw two Ozzie jerseys in the clearance section, one size large, not sure the size on the other. $40.

I see them on Ebay from time to time.

I don't know why I referred to him as Fiskie... I think I was just excited about the jersey!

After seeing that photo of Jim Kern, I really miss the old ballpark (design). I agree it was time for her to go, but "darn nubbit" why couldn't they just build another one just like it but bigger/better/newer?! I love the upper deck outfield and church-like window that are seen from the playing field.

I have a nike Baines batting practice red jersey that I recieved as a gift last year. After I got it I started to notice a few peple with Ozzie's jersey late in the season last year. The person who bought it for me said the picked it up at Marshalls or Tj Maxx. Best of luck

Ha there's like 3 guys on that page of cards that Paulie can beat in a race. As for the jersey I believe I saw one in Grandstand.

Cool. Can't make it to a game until the Toronto series next weekend, but will swing by Grandstand and check out their selection.
After an exhaustive internet search, I cannot find even one reference/mention of either of the jerseys (the 1982 red and 1983 red)... whether they were strictly batting practice, or simply functioned as a third jersey or what... and the only photos I can find of them are on 1983 and 1984 baseball cards... a rarity indeed!
