Heh. I don't believe in jinxes, but why not...

No hitter going on!
No hitter going on!
No hitter going on!

It's the top of the fifth, and there's nobody out. Paranoid much?

Really, it is still top of the 5th? Not even half way there.

There's something wrong in the world of baseball if Ted Lilly manages to get a no-hitter. I could see Zambrano and Harden getting them, but Lilly? Come on.

It could happen on a day like today. It's cold, windy, and there's some seriously terrible umpiring going on behind the plate. Rockies look pissed that they even had to play today and I'm not sure I blame them.

Mark had one and I thought there was zero chance of him ever doing it. It could happen to any pitcher.

Have you ever seen some names on a list of no hitters?

I will say that there have been some questionable calls, the called strike on Iannetta was bogus.

Lilly against the Rockies. He has a no-no through 6.

Yes, and Coy Hill will slam the baseball on the ground when he gets it back.

The homeplate ump is horrendous. There have been multiple pitches just in this inning alone that have been called balls for Colorado but Lily has been getting ring up after ring up with them.

And the stands are not that full. Everyone is probably in the bars.

What terrible weather out, too. I just walked my dog and didn't want to be outside. I can't imagine swinging at a baseball.

Do the Cubs have a NO HITTER going on?

No, but seriously..if he gets it done, props to him. At least it's legit.

You have to pitch nine innings to get credit for a no hitter.

That's nine innings in one game, not one month.

Done. Base hit for Atkins. Seriously it looked like Lilly was just lobbing it in there, that last strikeout to Helton looked like one of the laziest strikeouts.

I am not going to lie I kind of let out a sigh of relief.

I don't really care about him having a no hitter, I think it's pretty cool. But it's just the idiotic fans that make a circus out of everything.

It would of been perfect timing..because they gave out Carlos Zambrano replica no hitter statues today.

Crowd went pretty crazy for a guy who got into the 7th against a bad team in terrible weather when said team has the tying run up at the plate.

This game clinches a world series berth, that's why they were cheering so hard.

Zambo, Yes. Harden? Him throwing 7 innings is the equivalent of a normal pitcher throwing a complete game.

I LOVE that video!! I still remember a reporter asking Randy Johnson if he had ever seen a pitcher slam his glove to the ground like that. RJ answered: "yes........in little league."

CLASSIC!!!

It really is comical. Seriously, he could never get enough grief for being such a big baby. What a jerk.

(But, of course, for the Chicago media, it's all about Ted "being such a great competitor," if it's mentioned at all)

You should write a question on the board: Can you name the five states that have been added to the United States of America since the Cubs last won the World Series?

I believe Alaska, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico.

I spent a lot of time in Oklahoma as a teenager, too much time in fact. Oklahoma was admitted to the union in 1907. The 48th star was officially added to the flag on July 4, 1908, about three months before the Cubs last won the World Series.

I have spent most of my adult life in states that weren't states when the Cubs last won the World Series. I lived in Arizona and Alaska and have been to New Mexico and Hawaii. I liked Hawaii, but the last time I drove from Arizona to Texas, I didn't even step on my brakes in New Mexico.

Not that this is all that important. (It's doubtful that Geronimo or Mark Twain were in the stands when the Cubs won their last World Series championship because a record-low 6,210 people were in the stands that day).

But if you're looking for a fun fact, consider that the White Sox and Red Sox are the only teams to win the World Series under American flags with 45, 48 and 50 stars.
