I have seen these things, they look like moutguards, that are in some of the Sox mouths. I have seen Getz, Danks, and AJ have them. What are they and why do they have them?

What are they and why do they have them? It's a bite plate; it aligns your jaw correctly when you bite down on it, it's supposed to give you more overall strength if you can clench your teeth with a properly aligned jaw. At least, that's what I think it is.

I just read about them in Golf Digest of all places. They're designed to keep you from clenching your jaw. Apparently performance suffers when you tense up and clench your jaw. At least that's the theory.

Seems to work for Manny.

When I called it a "bite plate" above, it was because I couldn't remember the actual name. It is an orthotic mouthpiece.

Is this the new big thing like those lame titanium necklaces? No. There is actual research that shows they work.

No. There is actual research that shows they work.

I believe there is actual research that shows people have experienced beneficial effects from wearing them.

I do not believe, however, there is actual research showing that the physical/magnetic properties of such bracelets/necklaces actually work.

Which is not an insubstantial distinction.

Yeah, several of my friends wear them, I give them **** for it because I don't think it really does anything, if they think it does however, more power to them. More of a psychological benefit, IMO.

Most things are. That's why it's typically a waste of money to include the medical establishment in most all but acute trauma cases ... imo.
