With all the talk surrounding the center field / lead off situation. At what point (if ever) does John Shelby become an option?

Simply wondering what everyone thinks of the possibility.

I can't speak for his defense (Daver can you fill us in?) but offensively this kid seems to have everything the Sox are looking for at the top of the order, including speed.

Hasn't he only played A-ball?

Can anyone find a scouting report on him. He was a minor leaguer of the year for us last year, but was he even there during spring training?

He wasn't a non-roster invitee, but he did come up for a couple games.

He's bounced from outfield to 2b, back to the outfield. I'm not sure how good he is, but he's worked his way up the ladder the last few years. I assume he'll be in Birmingham all year. I really don't look at him as a real option for this season.

This is just about all that I have on file on him at this point:

Year Age* Lg Tm G AB H BB K BB% BB/K CT BABIP AVG OBP SLG OPS SB CS SBO
2007 21 A Kan 122 488 147 35 77 .07 .45 .84 .332 .301 .352 .508 .860 19 8 .22
2008 22 A Win 114 447 132 22 98 .05 .22 .78 .350 .295 .331 .510 .841 33 5 .40

If anyone can come up with any type of report, it would be worth looking at.

All I am looking for right now is for Wise to get comfortable with his new position.

I think that Shelby might be the long-term solution, but we can't screw up his development by rushing him in too early. He still has things to correct.
