Talk in here about the happenings of the AL Central games that the Sox aren't involved in. Twins are currently not looking good at all.

4-0 M's in the 5th.

Lead off triple for Hawk's favorite player (not Joe Crede)

Meanwhile Bedard strikes out the next batter.

Nick Punto gets lucky and gets his jersey knicked. If you're gonna hit that guy, you hit him flush on the back.

1st and 3rd 1 out.

Denard Span singles to right.

4-1

JermaineDye05
04-07-2009, 08:39 PM
Span steals second, Casilla strikes out. 2 down.

Cuddyer up.

JermaineDye05
04-07-2009, 08:40 PM
Meanwhile Brandon Lyon walks Adam Lind, the possible winning run.

JermaineDye05
04-07-2009, 08:42 PM
Bedard with a pitch that looked like strike three at the corner called ball 3.

Full count, ducks on the pond.

Great minds think alike. I was thinking today we should have monthly game threads for the rest of the AL Central, and I actually came on here just to start one....and find one already started. :D:

Bedard losing it a bit in the 5th here. 4-3 game now.

JermaineDye05
04-07-2009, 08:43 PM
Cuddyer singles, 4-3.

I seriously thought he had him on the 2-2 pitch, guess it was a bit high for the ump.

The 2-2 pitch looked good to me, too. Ump didn't think so, and it's a big swing in the game.

Haha yeah, I remembered the threads we had for the Twins last year in September when we were scoreboard watching, I thought why not scoreboard watch all year?:redneck

The Twins look really weak so far. I think the absence of Joe Mauer really hurts that team. He was probably a good team leader, as well as a great hitter.

That said, the Division doesn't look strong as the Twins are losing against Seattle, and the Tigers against the Blue Jays. I don't know if that is a good sign or not, but if that means the only competition the White Sox will have is themselves, I feel pretty confident about our chances this year.

Why is Leyland sticking with Lyon? 2nd inning of work and now has the bases loaded.

2 games is wayyy too early to tell, I like the optimism though, but the Twins will always "scrap" their way into contention.

That said they are crappy and perpetual losers.

Agreed, great idea. I'm going to love having a place to discuss other goings on in the central without having to start/hijack another thread.

Is it early, yes. Do these games count, yes. Keep up the losing boys! Go Sox.

Probably because the rest of the Tigers bullpen isn't really any better.

And the Jays win with the sac fly.

I'm not sure who thought Lyons was an upgrade. He's more of the same, a Todd Jones mold. Lots of saves which don't shed light on his true stats. Zumaya on the DL, Rodney still unproven. It's going to be a rough year for that bullpen.

Morrow feels more comfortable in the pen. One reason is that he's a diabetic and feels he can control his blood sugar better in the pen.

I love having Singleton on Baseball tonight. Not only does he feel in his element on the show, but he regularly plugs the White Sox as he did again to end the show. Wrappen up the half hour by noting that despite Buehrle's less than spectactular outing, the bullpen went 4 scoreless and Jim Thome gave them the win.

I love baseball tonight, and Karl Ravech. I didn't notice him roll his eyes, but I really like how the show is laid out, and despite some east coast bias it is the best place to get all the MLB action without MLB Network.

John Kruk has gotten much better, for some reason Singleton is amazing on the show, and the newest addition - Dave Winfield - was very solid is his debut.

ESPN is annoying, sportscenter is untolerable, but Baseball Tonight is solid, and is usually on my TV every night. My two cents.

I don't need to get hit on the head continuously to know that it's bad for me. Ditto for Baseball Tonight. After 2005 when they didn't mention the Sox one time during the preview show, including the five minutes they devoted to the Central, that was enough for me.

It had been going downhill for years before that... since they haven't changed the talking heads, it's clear that the quality of the product wouldn't have changed nor the bias towards the East Coast.

Hope that answers it for ya!

Well yeah, it is weird. I saw the World Series trophy being delivered to the Bronx last week by DHL. Bud said that since the Yankees opened an overpriced, sterile, ad-laced venue they can be champions this year although they have the same slow, soulless lineup from the past decade.

Hey, the Cardinals won in a putrid division- I guess if you get in, anything can happen. If this division is as bad as it looks, that means another 88 or 89 wins gets it. I don't think the White Sox should have too much trouble with that.

Indians lose. 0-5.

They've surpassed the Twins as my least favorite AL Central team. May be my least favorite team in the whole league. They were the darlings of the AL Central since their mini run in late 2005.

The Tigers won 4-3 but it shouldn't have been that close. Inge and Everett made errors in the fifth on balls that should have been outs, then Verlander gave up a hit that allowed TX to score two. He had a great game, only gave up 2 hits and had 8 K's in 5 innings. If not for those errors he may have lasted until the seventh. Rodney struck out the side in the 9th.

Now I get to watch the Sox and the Masters. Family's gone to the movies. Just me and my Bushmill's.

The Central is sucking against out-of-division opponents so far. Toronto is feasting off of Detroit and Cleveland - who was walloped by the Rangers in three straight games. The Twins barely split a four game series at home against Seattle, and the Royals, who looked great against us, just got whooped two straight games at home against the Yankees. Not a great start so far. As much as this helps the Sox, I'd also like the division to be a bit better so it feels like more of an accomplishment when the Sox win it. Now don't get me wrong, I'd much rather win a weak division than finish 3rd in a great division (see 2006), but I hate the feeling of being the "tallest midget".

What do you think there is a greater chance of? The Indians winning the division over us by one game or the Royals winning the division over us by one game? First place right now is nice, but honestly who's the bigger threat long term this season? The Indians ALWAYS have nice second halves. Better they get a stake in their heart now and get too far back to make a run. If the White Sox, Twins and Tigers can't outduel the Royals, something very miraculous is happening this season.

I have always been more worried about the Twins than everyone else; we've always had fits with them. And usually for no good reason. I don't know why people are afraid of Cleveland, that team has nothing but Lee's ir-repeatable Cy to be afraid of and one hitter (Sizemore). Other than that, I see 0 from that team.

Royals beat the Indians 9-3.

Joe Crede hit his first walkoff of the year for the Twins in the 11th with a double. Twins beat the Jays 3-2.

+1 , I'm going to watch the Tribe-Royals tonight, hoping to see the Royals scalp the tribe tonight

While I am not worried about the Royals, they are beginning to get the stench of a Cinderella team ala the White Sox, Tigers, Cardinals, Rays, and Rockies. Hopefully, they are decent for a little while, and taper off. Have to admit though, I wouldn't mind seeing them in the playoffs with the White Sox. I have never seen their stadium packed with fans, and would love to see how their city responds.

Royals have 2 good starters and possibly a break out candidate in Davies, but that 4-5 is really really bad.

I think that they're just giving Hochevar (2006 #1 pick) a little more time in the minors. He throws a hard sinker ala Kevin Brown and will probably be up for good in May.

Let me present a flashback to a year ago:

Orioles-Royals ALCS?

One or two great weeks does not make you a Cinderella team, nor does it give you the stench of one. It takes two solid months before a team's true nature asserts itself.

Le me present a flashback to a year ago minus two months:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/standings/index.jsp?ymd=20080609

Red Sox-Devil Rays ALCS.
Meanwhile, the Orioles and Royals find themselves in the cellar.

Don't start writing storylines in your head yet. While you can lose a pennant in April, you certainly can't come even close to winning one.

I'd like to think that the Royals beating the Indians is more a reflection on how overrated Cleveland was before the season started. Lot of good Kerry Wood does them if they never have a game to close.

Now, I know the Sox lost to KC too, but none of those games were blowouts. And yes, for that series, I like to think the Sox bats were just cold.

lol.. see I CAN have it both ways!

Keep in mind that Greinke and Meche would be at least the #2 and #3 starters on most staffs in the majors. Greinke would be the ace for at least half the teams in the majors. No shame in losing to them.

I haven't jumped on their bandwagon of "cinderellaness", but I just see how they can pull it off. They have all the requirements of a team that might be successful because of their pitching staff, and solid hitting at the top. Their hitting might not look great now, but Aviles, Crisp, and Gordon aren't too bad. Perhaps, I am nitpicking, but this Royals team is the best one they have produced in my opinion. Have they won anything yet? Absolutely not. Will they win anything? Probably not. Do they have a better chance of doing it this year that the previous few? I think so.

Perhaps giving them the world series trophy is rather foolish, but giving them a shot at playing good baseball isn't.

I completely agree with you on both accounts. I think the Sox are better than the Royals, and should have won both games.

Nothing makes me feel better then seeing the Indians fail, even though they have supposedly summoned the gods of baseball to play for their team this year.

I hope they are 20 games out by the end of May.

I hope the White Sox go to Rays stadium and take care of business. So far the A.L Central has proven its inadequacy outside of the A.L Central. The White Sox need to prove that they are the leaders of the Central. Plus an embarrassing trip at the dome means the White Sox will probably be in a 3 or 4 game hole. Well, with how crappy this division is, we might only be two back even if we get swept.

I don't remember a fight, ChiSoxGirl. Our big story was that my dh was giving me crap about being a princess and wanting to stay at a nicer hotel than the Holiday Inn right across the street from the stadium. He quickly changed his tune when we checked in, and he saw Dwayne Wise at the desk. And then I saw Alexei, and BA walked right by me. (I didn't say a word, but hubby and I just looked at each other with big, raised eyes and smiled.) We saw Ozzie and just about everyone else the next morning.

The only other thing of note was the ridiculously hot weather at the game the next day. We were losing so badly, and we were drenched in sweat from just sitting there, that we left early. It was like 110+ degrees! Ahhh, and the little boys's hair was sooo long then, they were dripping, but they wouldn't let me give them a ponytail! That's for girls, Mom!!

Yeah, I remember that too. Not sure if it was the same game you went to, but it was definately that series. Brutally hot weekend.

Drewcifer, we went to the Fri. night and Sat. afternoon games. We thought about staying for Sunday, but the heat was unbearable. I felt like I could pass out just walking back to the car. Meanwhile, ThomeFan was eating his heart out at some family function with his girlfriend, bwahaha!
