50 years since 59', a very worthy replacement.

Can't wait for Monday! :bandance:

We should be able to say "Hall of Fame Pitcher" Billy Pierce is throwing out the first pitch. One of the all time biggest snubs. Pierce is a class act too. Glad he gets to throw out the first pitch.

Very good choice. I cant wait for the Dodgers series either, to see all the 59 guys.

That man is all class. There's no other man worthy enough to represent the '59 team. Aparicio maybe, but that's about it.

I was really hoping the president would grace US Cellular Field on opening day, but this is a fine substitute. I can't wait to see Mr. Pierce toss one! I bet it will be a slider.

I'm hoping they go with some kind of '59-related car flag for the giveaway this year.

What game in the series is that going to be? I really would like to be at that game.

Nice, also hope we get the '59 car flags as well, and a white sox winner!

Ditto. Plus, it is always great to see him at the park.

After the thread about the 4800 calorie hamburger it's good to see that the Sox are offering a 5 pound 3 foot long meatball sub.

Many claim that had Pierce hadn't been relegated to the bull pen and started in the '59 Series, the Sox would have won it.

Billy Pierce threw out the first pitch before the 1970 opener against the Twins, and that worked out.*

*The Twins won the April 7, 1970 game in Old Comiskey, 12-0. The Sox would lose 105 more games that season.

It would probably get more fanfare if it was available to the public.

I actually have the original Sun-Times clipping showing Tommy John getting the hook by Don Gutteridge after getting rocked.

I wanted Obama, but I guess this works out.

The Ozzie plan wouldn't let me get any lower than 500 level seats for opening day which sucks, but do any of you know if they are nice on opening day and let 500 level seats go down toward the field before the game starts? :?:

I thought Ozzie Plan holders could access the lower bowl any game, or is that just Season Ticket holders?

Just 27-game and full season ticket holders can go down. And I doubt they'll let anyone down before the game, because they'd have no way to force you back up.

At least most of my games are lower level games anyway. I like to try and get signatures from players along the baselines.

I guess they send out passes to watch the Sox batting practices for some of the games to season ticket holders, does that include Ozzie Plans?

I thought it's available in the club level.

Which is why I'm going to have to score some club level seats.

I love meatball sandwiches.

I will go to my grave believing that. Wynn pitched the sixth game on short rest and I always wondered what would have happened if Billy had pitched the 6th game. Now he did pitch in relief in the 5th game I believe but that could have been avoided.

Cool! Billy's one of the classiest men in baseball. I was honored to meet him once.

The 59 situation with Billy actually involved game #2 not game #6. Many felt that Pierce was the logical choice to start the second game instead of Bob Shaw.

Years later Al Lopez said about his decision, that because Billy hurt his hip late in the season he wasn't sure what he could get out of him. Lopez also said that he was trying to get in a situation where he could go up 2-0 in the series by having his two best pitchers, Wynn & Shaw work the first two games.

He almost pulled it off.

Still from having interviewed Billy, (whom I spoke to yesterday) I know he was tremendously disappointed.

Fixed it for you. Billy Pierce is a great member of the organization, but the President of the United States who is local, and an unabashed White Sox fan is the most obvious choice in the world. Politics don't matter in this situation.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Dont fix his post. He ment what he said. This is baseball, and our heros in baseball should take honors first. Lets not make this a political discussion.

Don't "fix" anyone's post. Using the "quote" function and then changing the quote is dishonest, not to mention lame.

Agreed, but I'm sure the POTUS will make a few appearences in the future. Good for Billy...

thanks,

I'd like to add my $.02. Here is a quote from the "Things Every Poster Should Know" thread that everyone needs to heed:

If you try any "fixed your post" crap you will get up to a 3 month ban. You are not only unbelievably lame, you are also deceitful when you alter another member's post in that manner. It will not be tolerated anymore.

Somebody dodged a bullet on this one.
