Is Gene Honda doing the Final 4 again like every year?

Man, part of the treat of opening day is getting his voice on the intros along with Nancy.

I feel cheated on opening day when Tom Shaer is on the mic. He sucks.

Yes, hes probably doing the Final Four.

We will also run into this problem when the Hawks are in the playoffs, which hopefully lasts deep into May.

For one reason or another my favorite Gene Honda introductions have always been Ray Durham and Juan Uribe, but now I have niether. I'm sure Gene can find a new name to impress me with.

I'm guessing he'll be doing the final four for his sixth straight year, but I couldn't find anything with a quick google search.

Are you sure about that? I thought the Hawks were just an offseason gig.

Sorry, the Hawks should suffer. I hate the guy that replaces him...forgot his name. During the ring ceremony, he introduced Konerko as Paulie Konerko...ugh.

I'd be all for Gene doing games during the beloved Hawks' playoff run if it meant we'd get to hear Harvey Wittenberg once again announce some more Hawks games. I REALLY miss Harvey, and this would be a win-win situation.

Harvey did a game I was at a couple of weeks ago. I think Gene had the Big Ten Tourney, anyway, Harvey was starting to sound his age, but it did bring back memories. His "one minute remaining in the period" has to be the best.

I wouldn't be upset if Gene was doing playoff games for the Hawks. I am sure he would do playoff games for the Sox instead of regular season for the Hawks....:dunno:

He is the Hawks PA announcer as much as he is the SOX, plan and simple. I see no reason he wouldnt be doing Hawks playoff games.

Sox are also out of town for most of the 1st round, anyways

I really don't even care, as I won't be at the park anyways. But how long has he even been doing Hawks games?

The Final Four is 3 games. This is a team that plays 82. I believe he also does DePaul basketball, and is the voice of Channel 11.
Gene has quite a background outside our Sox.

Almost as much as "Now let's welcome the manager and starting line up, for your American League Champion, CHICAGOOOO, WHITE SOXXXX!!'

And ring day in 2006 was such a let-down with Geno not there.

He did indeed do the Big Ten Tourney.

I guess if theres one positive about Monday being rained out, maybe Gene would be able to get back for Tuesdays game? :?:

Actually saw Gene Honda working a WTTW telethon a month ago during the 6 am showing of Sesame Street.

Tom Shaer used to be Gene's backup, but last year Gene's backup was Loyola public address announcer Pat Schultz who did a much better job than Shaer. Hopefully, Pat will be there again on Opening Day.

Was our opening day on Tue instead of a Monday that year?

I think Gene along with Nancy are a huge part of Opening Day for us Sox fans and tradition. I wish the Sox can address this for the future. That Shaer fiasco was ugly a few years back.

It always feels like the opener falls the same night as the NCAA championship.

I think he should be. Usually he's back by game two of the season.
