Hopefully he can do what Iguchi did for us in '05.

Why not just have him lead off?

Why not just have him lead off?

That's what I don't understand. Guillen said he doesn't want to put any extra pressure on Getz. He is still batting at the top of the order.

He also told Wise not to change his approach and just "play his game." Well Getz's game is perfectly suited for the leadoff spot. There would be no extra pressure in Getz just "playing his game." Wise's game is perfectly suited for AAA.

Unfortunately, the Sox will not have a decent two hitter with Getz leading off. Ramirez can bat second to see more fastballs, or everyone can be moved up a spot in the lineup. I saw someone recommend a similar lineup on this board. I think it's a very good idea.

Getz
Quentin
Thome
Dye
Konerko
Ramirez
Pierzynski
Fields
Wise/Anderson

Again, someone needs to tell me what was wrong with AJ batting 2nd? .284/.307/.407 in 84 G last year? Not great numbers, but not terrible by anyone's standards.

I agree with you, I never thought AJ was bad in the 2-hole

It's the .307 number in the triple-slash line that was wrong.

I like AJ in the 2-hole. He's more likely to do what he does best at the plate (use the whole field), rather than start swinging for the fences (when his average starts to drop). The only problem, however, is if you have Getz batting 1st and Wise batting 9th, you have three straight lefties.

I thought that he did a very good job, his one flaw is that he can't really move guys over quite as much. I would imagine that Getz is probably better than AJ at that, but it's hard to move guys over if you're leadoff guy doesn't at least get on.

Also AJ being slower makes a double play more likely if he were to get on.

Since everyone else is doing their line up, here is mine:

Getz
Ramirez
Quentin
JD
Thome
Konerko
AJ
Fields
Anderson

Everyone is freaking out about the leadoff position/who will bat 2nd and the season hasn't even started yet. Before we jump off the bridge here lets give Ozzies decision a chance.
I think he has earned our trust as a manager.

I trust him to continue to make stupid decisions.

Like win two divison titles,
a 90 Win Season
and a World Series Title?

I sure hope he continues to make stupid decisions.

Fair point, but there's plenty of right-handed power behing AJ to at least off-set the L/L at the top of the lineup and I'm still hoping that Wise will be used only in a platoon situation with Anderson... Plus, I try to avoid thinking about him at the plate as much as possible. :D:

Well, I didn't say AJ was an ideal 2-hole hitter, he's just the best we have. This is still a pretty slow, power-oriented lineup. Maybe I should say I like Getz/AJ at the top of the order more than I like Wise-Anderson/Getz.

I think that's our best bet to start the season with the exception I'd prefer the platoon in CF batting 9th.

So, our 6 best hitters are (in whatever order)...

Quentin
Dye
Ramirez
Thome
Konerko
Pierzynski

...and yet the two players who will get the most at-bats if this reported 1-2 plays out are Wise and Getz.

If this doesn't work out, like you would expect it wouldn't, I hope Ozzie is quick to change.

Games aren't won and lost in the first inning, Jjav.

Prediction: Chris Getz will set a rookie record for plate appearances with at least one out.
