With now 6 hr in spring ball, what kind of playing time do you want/think he will get once the season starts?

I think that depends on how Fields and Getz are playing. Not a bad guy to have, versatile on the field and a switch hitter. If both Fields and Getz are playing well, he can still spell time at 1B, 2B, and 3B (maybe even LF?). Let's hope Ozzie keeps him away from SS, though.

In other words, he should get his fair share of playing time due to his versatility. Maybe more if Fields/Getz struggle.

Don't forget that Fields and Konerko are both playing as good, if not better than Betemit.

I don't need to see Betemit very much at all.

The guy makes Jose Valentin look like a gold glove IF. I rather his stick come off the bench at best.

Uh, what makes you think he even makes the team to begin with?

He might not make it if we clone BA and he becomes our utility guy.

Now I hadn't thought of that, but I think it is a great idea.

Those items in red make it seem logical...especially for a utility player...

Betemit is gonna make the team.

Betemit will make the team because he can play many positions (badly). But I love how people point to a veteran's ST stats like they are signs guys should be awarded starting spots. He has a long, crappy body of MLB work to look at.

Actually Betemit's had a decent little career thus far, he's only been relegated to utility positions in Atlanta and New York because he keeps getting blocked by other players. He was a nice, under the radar pickup this off-season.

This is how I've always viewed it. I know he doesn't play the best defense, but as a sub he has decent pop and should fill the utility role quite well. His defense wont be as good as a Uribe, but his bat should be better.

And that is the only way we should be viewing Bettimet (sp).

Seems like another Tony Graffanino type player.

Whatever he is (as much as this pains me to say) he is probably an upgrade over the last few years we saw out of Juan Uribe.

Betemit is a much better hitter left-handed. He'll spell Fields and Konerko against certain righties (maybe even Dye?) and pinch hit a lot for whoever ends up in center.

He's better than any utility player we've had the past few seasons. He had a lot of pinch hit home runs last year, as I recall.

Offensively I would definitely agree with you. However, Betamit looked pretty awful in the field the few games that were on TV. I haven't seen enough of him defensively at other positions to know yet how he will be at 3B and 1B. Handling the glove was something Uribe was pretty good at so the jury is still out on whether Betemit is a complete upgrade over Juan.

Betemit has a serious track record as a pinch hitter. There's no way he doesn't make the team.

He's passable at 3B and 2B too, but we have much better fielding options. He could even play LF in a pinch.

I agree that his glove is poor, but he's a definite upgrade at the plate from "the free swinging" Juan Uribe.
