View Full Version : Sox are 3-2!

I expected the Sox to lose just about all their spring training games. The fact that they have won 3 so far, has me excited. Maybe this team can compete, although the tough loss to the Cubs Saturday , but they are expected to go far. I think Jerry Owens will be the God send of the year, mainly because Carlos Quenton probably wont produce as much due to his lack of bat speed.

I was happy with Beckham's HR yesterday. He got a nice pitch to hit and put a real good swing on it.

That said, a team's record after 5 Spring games is pretty irrelevant.

A team's record in Spring Training is irrelevant, period. But I guess if it keeps the crazies around here happy, then I'm happy.

I sure liked what I saw yesterday! The Sox have some impressive young talent and Harrelson and Stone sounded great, together. There were some problems on defense and it worries me when an infielder doesn't know when to charge a ground ball. Other than that, my first look at the White Sox left me very optimistic!

I LOVE baseball!! :gulp:

Yeah I'm shocked that a team that won it's division and returns most of its team hasn't lost every one of it's spring training games. I mean few teams can recover from having lost a big game mental midget, an injured third basemen, a .220 hitter, a solid SS, and a utility infielder that corkscrews himself into the ground swinging for his 16 HR a year.

We are 3-2. We showed a lot of heart coming back yesterday. And now we are only 1 game out of first. It is an exciting time for White Sox baseball!

Quite true. Just a quick recent example, the Sox went 8W-18L in last year's Cactus League before going on to the REAL season and winning the AL Central Division. Somehow they were able to move on from an embarassing pre-season showing.

I am trying to figure out what's worse...threads like this, or the ones that come after opening day or the opening series declaring the Sox to be destined for last because of a lackluster performance.

Definately the Opening week threads. I am happy with the performances now as well, but it is only 1 week into a loooonnnggg spring.

Team record in ST means NOTHING. What is more important is how returning veterans are performing individually and if young players who are going to be counted on are developing the way they should.

Yep, the Opening Week threads are definitely the worst. Morale was pretty awful around here after we dropped the first two games to the Indians at the beginning of last season. It's amazing how quickly some people give up.

I can understand that people get fired up about meaningful baseball, which I think is some of the reason for the ST threads, too. But year after year after year? Don't people gain some perspective at some point?

Today is huge, if the Sox can beat Seattle. Seattle is off to an unbelievable start. I really think the Sox can win the Catus league this year, that will lead to another central division winner I think.

OK. I hate when I get sucked into a blatantly saracstic thread and the whole thing goes over my head. I think that's just a testament to how many of those threads are actually serious, though.

I thought it was obvious that it was sarcastic from the moment he said Jerry Owens was a god send and that Quentin had no bat speed.

I wouldn't correct someone with Wikipedia if I wasn't sure of the answer, but I knew the '85 Bears won their last preseason game to go 1-3, so when I googled that, the Wikipedia entry was the first hit.

Since they don't have preseason schedules for the 1985 Bears, it's not a good reference for this specific question.
